Before designing the details of a new timeline, I would like to start with a simple outline to guide me through the process. This step is important because the design of the list depends on the amount of content you want to add. If you don’t know how many things should fit on the list, you will choose the wrong layout design and do more work.

Sketchy Timelines: Your Personal And Professional Secret Weapon

The idea behind the timeline is that you want to provide some information about the main events over time, so each event should have at least a specific date and a brief summary.

Try to keep descriptions short, as the timeline is a visual summary of the storyline. I like to aim for less than 30 words per description and then decorate it with some images like icons or photos to make it look good.

Also remember, having the same amount of text for each activity makes it easy to create good non-symmetrical design.

Let’s say you’re creating an infographic for a timeline showing the history of popular social media platforms for your next video project. I start by creating an outline that includes three of these four elements: dates, titles, and short descriptions.

Then I found a simple sight like morning to go with each sign. These annotations are what separate the interactive timeline from the traditional timeline. It draws the reader’s eyes, adds visual interest, and makes the graphic easy to scan without too much thought.

If you do not have your own opinion, you can find suitable ones in the editor. Swipe left and use keyword search or image search to find some fun images that go with your article:

Some layout designs are better for longer articles, while others are better suited for more time slots and less text. Let’s review the strengths and weaknesses of each timeline layout.

The vertical layout is the most popular layout for graphic displays. It comes in two views: center and left.

The vertical spacebar in the middle is my favourite. In this layout, the timeline runs right in the middle of the page with branches from opposite sides of the timeline:

Symmetry and simplicity make it pleasant to look at and very easy to follow. Most people recognize it as a timeline without examining it for more than a second.

It’s also very simple; There’s plenty of room for long descriptions, and you can simply lengthen the page by adding more tags. Additionally, adding views to this type of layout is easy.

For example, this product roadmap is a great example of a layout where all the key stages from concept to completion are mapped vertically. It’s great for keeping your team on track by visualizing a product plan:

Next up we have another popular timeline layout: the timeline on the left. But for branches to appear from both sides of the timeline, the line itself is aligned to the left side of the page and everything else is left to the right of the line.

It’s great for those who want to present complex information as an overview or a step-by-step process. For example, if you’re a consultant offering a product delivery schedule for your clients, this list of contact points is the best way to do it:

Engaging Ways To Create Timelines

A vertical left-hand layout is ideal for list-heavy, small views, and lots of sections. You can learn to create a timeline like the example above by following the steps in this guide.

I recommend portrait orientation, centered, or left for most timeline descriptions because it’s simple. It’s easy to create, edit and edit any type of content.

You’ve learned how to create a vertically placed timeline. You may recognize the horizontal line layout from all the shows you’ve watched in the last ten years. There seems to be a lot of movie theaters all over the place (as shown below):

While they work well on presentation slides, they are not suitable for most infographics. They can only process up to 6 to 7 characters at a time (on a letter-size page) before you can read it. If the information is less than 7 characters or very short, you can use the horizontal format.

For example, if you want to raise money for your new business idea, the slideshow above is the perfect addition to your presentation presentation, showcasing your company logo and captivating potential investors.

The last timeline layout you might want to use is the snake layout. Simply put, the snake layout turns the page and looks like a snake. The snake layout is best used for lists with lots of symbols and small text, such as:

Snake layouts are best for spacing, and more than 10 points is fine. The best way to learn how to make a bullet using the snake form is to remember one rule: add as few words as possible. Use this format when you want to focus on views:

After deciding on the format, ask “How do I create the timeline?” It’s time to answer the question. I will walk you through the process of creating the following template from scratch using an online template generator.

This is an example statement for a very focused vertical listing, so the steps included here should apply to most ingredient lists.

Every timeline should be built around the same basic framework: a single line with branches at regular intervals. This may seem obvious, but it is very important.

First, start by selecting a vertical line from the “Lines and Borders” section of the icon library on the left toolbar. Flip and edit to run the length of the page, leaving room at the top for the title. This will form the backbone of your timeline.

Then adjust the shape of this line using the top toolbar. Use the linewidth dropdown to set the keyline width to a minimum of 2px. We used 4px width for this line.

Then use the “End of Line 1” and “End of Line 2” drop-down menus to add a highlight to both ends of the line. We chose circles, but lines and arrows are suitable for most areas.

Then lock the timeline using the “Lock” button on the top toolbar. This simple step will prevent you from accidentally moving the row as you add more items.

Finally, go back to “Lines and Borders” in the icon library and add a horizontal line for each point in your outline. Use the grid to always leave space on different sides of the timeline.

Yes, this is an additional feature that makes it easy to create your timeline: change “Grid” in the top toolbar. This is useful when you need to align multiple elements on a page.

Now that you have organized the basics of your timeline, you can fill in the details. Time to add content.

Start with images as they are the main focus of infographics. Drag icons or images from our built-in libraries and align each image to its corresponding branch on the timeline.

Next, add the text from your draft. Select a title, subtitle, or body text box from the left toolbar menu and place it on the page next to each branch. Fill the title text boxes with dates, add your title text to the subtitle text boxes, and add your descriptions to the body text boxes.

All the important stuff is now in place so you can focus on making the timeline design look better.

Start by choosing a color scheme to spice things up. Use the background color picker on the left toolbar to change the background color, and the color picker on the top toolbar to change the colors of other elements.

Notice how we use the same colors for the same elements throughout the entire timeline? Adhering to a simple tricolor scheme for this listing, white,
