One day God told Jonah to go to the city of Nineveh and tell the people of Nineveh not to do bad things. Jonah didn’t want to go. He thought it was a dangerous mission. So Jonah fled to the sea and jumped into a boat to go to another city.

Then there was a great wind and a strong storm. Jonah knew that the storm was caused by running away from what God had told him to do.

Then he told those in the boat that if they threw him into the sea, God would stop the storm. They threw him in and it stopped. They were very grateful and stopped and thanked God.

Then the captain and crew looked into the water and saw Jonah being swallowed inside the whale’s mouth, right inside the whale’s belly. God sent the whale to keep Jonah from drowning.

Jonah stayed in the dark belly of the whale for three days and three nights. While he was in the belly of the fish, he thanked God for saving him from drowning and asked forgiveness for not going to Nineveh as he had been told.

Finally, after the third day, God put Jonah, the big fish, on dry land and God told him to go to Nineveh. He obeyed. This Jonah and the Whale can help extend the lesson after reading your favorite Bible story.
