Paper crafts. I grew up in Japan, the land of origami, and I made all sorts of things out of paper. I even remember making a solar powered paper camera as a kid. How impressed I was then!

So I was delighted to be one of half a dozen elves who participated in a recent holiday paper crafting workshop. There were illustrators, designers and a paper engineer – all super artists. (Yes, we have a dedicated paper engineering team that helps us with our paper products, and they are amazing!) My co-workers have made beautiful paper holiday wreaths, Christmas tree wreaths, and holiday ornaments. So inspiring! Where did they find these talented people?
Upcycled Christmas Tree Ornaments
I decided to make house shaped lights and modern multiple paper decorations. Here’s a pattern so you can make decorations too. Print or color the holiday templates you want on paper and have fun!

Greg always knows when Christmas is coming, not by the time or date on the calendar.
He’ll drop empty toilet paper rolls that appear on a random table or counter, and I’ll stick my head in the corner and say,
There’s always a lot of eye rolling and a bit of a panicked sweat. She claims that every year on Christmas Eve, I leave a trail of glitter coming out of my craft room and straight up the stairs…
However (Greg’s panic aside), this year I decided to collect toilet paper rolls and make five Christmas decorations. Yes! Five!

When I started, I didn’t know where I was going. The first was actually a repeat of a Christmas floral ornament I made years ago. I made a magical birdhouse ornament, which should be in a fairy garden, and I also have a snowflake ornament and two birds in a log! Pay attention to these!

You’ll want to start by simply cutting a roll of toilet paper lengthwise. It is cut from end to end.

Hot glue together. You’ll want to hold the hot glue for about a minute until it cools.
After you finish covering the toilet paper roll, cut off the end and tuck it under. Use glue to secure it in place.
Use Mod Podge or clear dry glue to add small dots to the Christmas tree ornament. Color on top of the straight thread.
Use Mod Podge to glue two stars together with fishing line between them. Spread Mod Podge on the star and sprinkle with gold glitter.

Cut a piece of toilet paper roll and roll it into a cylinder. Use hot glue to hold the shape. Paint it brown.
Glue the star to the top of the tree. I let small ends of fishing line pass through the bottom of the star. I placed them on top of the tree so it would hang on the tree better.
That’s it! I’m not sure it could get any easier! This is an inexpensive Christmas decoration. It is easy to make and has the charm of a homemade Christmas.

Today: How to make paper ornaments from just card. I went to make something similar for Easter with my paper Easter eggs and loved them so much that I decided to adapt them for Christmas.

Draw the templates – or the correct shape – on your card. I used 12 cutouts for each ornament. After you cut them all, fold each one in half.
Now to glue the pieces together to make the decoration: Take your first cut and apply glue to half of it. Then do the same with the other cut and glue them together. Continue this with all the cuts, gluing each one to the previous one.
Festive And Fun Diy Christmas Decorations
Once you’ve glued all 12 cutouts together, you’ll be able to glue the last one on top of the first one to make the complete shape. If you want your decor to hang on a tree, make sure you apply some glue to the inner “core” first and attach the patterned string to the bottom. Then you can glue the two ends together. Hold for a few seconds to make sure it is firmly attached.
I started making a few different shapes – mini Christmas trees, stars and classic baubles. I have also made larger trees that are perfect to stand on your dining room table or to create a window display. It’s so easy to make – and you can make so many different variations!

To begin, cut (14) 1-inch squares from one of the pattern paper sheets using a paper trimmer. Cut 1.25 inch squares from the second sheet (14).

To create each of the petals for your flower, you will first fold the corner as shown…
…and then fold over the opposite corner so that the two sides meet in the center and your square is in the shape of a cone. Attach them with a little hot glue where both sides overlap. Repeat this process until all your squares are folded.
Now cut a 2 inch circle out of patterned paper sheets and mark the center with a pencil.
Working in small sections, draw a line of hot glue around the outside edge of your circle piece and begin gluing your larger petal pieces to the base of the circle, making sure the points of each petal line up exactly with the mark you made on the previous piece. A step.

Continue working until all of your large petals are attached to the base of the circle. When you get to the end of this process, you may not have room for the 14th petal, depending on how close your other petals are. This is perfectly fine.
Glue your smaller petals in the same way, directly on top of the bottom layer of petals. Glue these small petals so that they fit between the larger ones below.
Add a hanger to your ornament by cutting a long piece of ribbon and tying it into a loop. Use hot glue to attach the ends of the loop to the back of the ornament, cover the ends of the glue and tape with another circle of hole punched paper to give everything a neat look if you like.
