Thomas And Friends Potty Book – The potty has never been my favorite part of parenting, so anything that makes things a little easier is a win in my book.
We’re just at the beginning of our potty training journey with Max – gently introducing him to the potty, the events and the right words, showing him the pants and explaining what his brother and sister are doing in the bathroom. He’ll happily sit on the potty and we’ve had a few pooches – but luck rather than judgement. However, when it did, we put a huge waste on it. The Thomas Potty Book was a great help for those first steps. It features Max’s favorite Thomas & Friends characters with pictures explaining the stages of potty training – wearing pants, using the toilet or potty and washing hands, and a page explaining that accidents happen and it’s okay.

In addition to the Thomas Potty Book, we use the Thomas & Friends Well Done Thomas Activity Book, which, while not specifically aimed at potty training, works well for this purpose. It’s a reward chart book full of customizable charts, stickers, and activities designed to encourage and reward good behavior. We decided to use one of the star charts as a potty training aid and each time Max sat on the potty we gave him a sticker – 2 if he managed to spend a little week there. We explained that you could drink some candy when you reached the top of the list. He loved using the chart and is proud to stick his stars on himself – and tell anyone who will listen!

My little one, Sophia, turned two at the end of May, and I thought she would be on the potty by her second birthday, just like her sister. She is not her sister, although she is a completely different child with a different personality, so I waited until I knew Sophia was ready. We knew she wasn’t going to be potty training soon because she started telling us she was wet or dirty and asking to have her diaper changed. We went out and gave her a potty that had been in the lounge for a few months so she got used to it and got her a little pull up and big girl panties that she loved wearing over her nappy and pantyhose like Superman. .
Two weeks ago we knew it was time to try potty training. We had two accidents right away, then she started shrinking, stopped saying “oh no”, ran, sat on the potty and good night. This went on for a day or two, then he started to wean off and used the potty himself when he had to.

Everything seemed so easy and simple, and we thought we’d messed up the whole potty training thing right away. Bad! When he’s at home without pants, he’s fine on the potty, but as soon as we put pants or clothes on him, he’ll think he’s in a diaper and wet himself. He hasn’t quite mastered pulling his pants up and down yet.
Help is at hand though as we recently received a ‘My Thomas Potty’ tutorial book and a ‘Thomas and Friends’ activity book ‘Well done Thomas’. These books are perfect for Sophia as Tomás is mad at her at the moment as she is a bit obsessed with trains these days and always says choo choo. Her little face lit up when she saw these books and they were hers and her little brother couldn’t touch them.
My potty training book is a hardcover book with card pages, perfect for toddlers to look at and enjoy without fear of messing up. The book is all about potty training and is great to read with your child or let them search, with pictures on every page that relate to potty training. She explains that it’s time to say goodbye to diapers and say hello to the potty and it’s time to put on big pants, and hopefully they’ll help Sophia realize they’re not like diapers.
The book also encourages little ones to wash their hands after using the potty and that sometimes accidents can happen, but that’s okay because the potty isn’t always easy and you just have to do the best you can. At the end of the book is a little cover full of reward stickers to celebrate little ones using the potty.

We also got a ‘Well Done Thomas Activity Book’ which is a great book to go with my ‘My Thomas Potty Book’. The activity book is full of stickers, certificates and reward charts and is a great way to reward your little one for using the potty. This book includes lots of activities and coloring for toddlers, as well as 10 reward cards, 8 certificates and two sticker sheets.
Let’s start with the reward chart and use the stickers every time Sophia manages to take off her pants and go to the potty because toddlers love stickers so this can be a good motivator for her.
Potty training really doesn’t have to be stressful, just be patient and wait until your child is ready and the potty and pants are ready. If your child is a train fanatic like mine, I highly recommend getting these books, and they are perfect for children who are preparing for or starting potty training. A familiar character in a book telling them about potty training is sure to put them at ease as well.
