As much as my kids hate to see their precious elf leave for another year, they look forward to Christmas Eve because in our house, they are allowed to touch the elf on Christmas Eve. We understand if the basic elf protocol is that the elf loses its magic when it comes into contact with human children, on Christmas Eve, the elf can ride back to the North Pole on Santa’s sleigh. No magic required on Christmas Eve!
So every year, on the morning of Christmas Eve, the children take the Oboe from wherever it is that day and take it home for the rest of the day. At night we take Oboe out with our cookies and milk for Santa and by the next morning, he will be gone for another year.
