Be sure to practice each new stamp on copper (or another inexpensive metal). They are all a little different and you don’t want the learning curve happening on an expensive metal.
• Use a heavy hammer that weighs between 1 and 2 lbs. A brass-headed hammer works best, but any heavy household hammer will work.
• Use a Steel Bench Block under your metal. You need the resistance of the hard block to successfully make an impression in your metal.

Some design patterns are more difficult to print than others. Remember, you are not removing the metal, you are moving it around, so the more design on the stamp, the more metal to move evenly.
For example, the Loopy stamp is a curved line and is quite easy to stamp. The Bird House stamp has a lot of detail so it will be more difficult to stamp.
The more comfortable you are with your hammer, the more successful you’ll be pounding. Don’t be afraid… hit hard! ☺ Make sure your work surface is not too soft.
This may be because you are working on a surface that bounces slightly. If you have anything between the bench block and your table (other than something hard like a sandbag) it can cause your punch to bounce a bit and you will get a double punch. Make sure there is nothing soft under your Bench Block, not even a piece of cloth. ALSO make sure you are working on a very strong stable table. If you’re working on something thin, like a paper table, the table will absorb some of the impact and add to the problem.
