Starfall Calendar – I love calendars! At the beginning of each semester it was decided to fill in a new calendar. Christmas felt like all those days lined up like presents in front of me to see. I don’t know how they predicted my future with hidden promises every day.
Every so often, I will begin each lesson by telling my students about this special day and have them listen to segments from “Garrison Keillor’s Writer’s Almanac.” Year, here is a list of other calendars to highlight your school days.

Structured Morning Meeting
While using it in the classroom and in the classroom, Starfall has expanded its lessons, resources, and games to apply math and reading skills through third grade.
When I decided to home school for three years, I researched so many different preschool career options. I referred to Starfall because it is so fun for kids AND so easy for homeschooling teachers and families!
In this post, I’ll highlight the key features of Starfall for preschool and kindergarten so you can determine if it’s right for your family.

The curriculum is divided into seven units, which are called 25 weeks. Each unit focuses on a specific topic
The lessons are very easy to teach because they are well organized and the framework flows. Also, the writing is beautiful, so it’s easy to know what to say when teaching skills.
In addition to the free lessons you can grab from the Starfall website, you’ll also find accessories for each unit, including:
You also have access to advanced research materials so you can easily monitor how your student is retaining the information being taught.

If you want to purchase Starfall resources along with the lessons, you can do so through the online store on their website. I have used their nursery materials as a classroom teacher and have always been really impressed with the high quality of the material.
As a homeschooling mom with a preschooler, I decided to buy just a few. When my daughter started applying at age three, I didn’t feel she was ready for worksheets and other advanced materials yet.
These were about $13 and are great to hang on your school wall. I often refer to them with my daughter and she loves to point and identify the pictures.
This backup is about $32, but I use it every day. The set contains cards that you will use in each lesson, including letters, numbers, shapes, feelings, weather, letter sounds, etc.

In addition to the items listed above, I also purchased an annual Starfall membership for the pregame course.
If you purchase a Starfall tablet for your home, the price is very reasonable, just $35 for the whole year. The cost of a Starfall membership is a real steal since you use it while homeschooling a lot.
Online games and songs help reinforce the skills you teach in each daily lesson. Plus, the sites and games are so fun and engaging that students don’t even have to learn!
Before you order a Starfall membership, I suggest you decide what training materials you are going to buy. Starfall usually offers discounts where you can get a free membership by purchasing certain materials.
What’s Happening Coming Up?
Once you become a Starfall member, your student has access to all online games, books, songs and resources for all levels. You can use the strategy page to reinforce your skills in the lecture.
A preschooler can start with online games that recognize the letters of the alphabet (none and lowercase).
You’ll also find songs, games and rhymes that reinforce letter sounds. For more advanced preschoolers, there are games that focus on blending sounds to form words.
As a teacher, you can highlight books that you teach with lessons for students to listen to and keep them online. You will also find activities to practice colors, rhymes and sight words.
July Warm Weather Continues
We like to start every math lesson with the Starfall calendar. This is a really engaging tool that allows students to interact with the monthly calendar. It helps to reinforce skills such as days of the week, months of the year, weather, holidays, etc.
In addition to the Starfall calendar, you can find all kinds of math games online. Some pre-teaching skills are included
Starfall is only $35 for the entire year and it’s worth it! If you are teaching a preschooler or kindergartener, online games can really help reinforce these basic skills.
Activities, songs and books are also really engaging for all types of students. The kids in my regular classroom and homeschool class love spending time learning and playing on the Starfall website.

If you are looking for a fun and educational program for first grade and beyond, check out my Time4Learning publication. This blog started with many studies of online resources (9 years ago in the pre-iPad era) and their interactivity, visual and educational content, also very language-based (Speechie, which forms the basis of the five criteria). A simple online activity is still a great way to get the language around a curriculum topic. when analyzing sites, we can look for those that promote descriptive/definitive, sequential, causal or conditional language. Karen Ogen’s Interactive Sites For Education is currently being updated, but remains an excellent site collection that can be used on laptops, desktops, or Chromebooks (not the iPad, as many are Flash-based). Explore the space with your creativity to find useful resources to attack the concepts and language of many career topics. For example, in the Social Sciences and Calendar subtopic, this very useful Starfall resource is linked:
In the interactive application, you can use the calendar function and identify important events and decorate the month with seasonal images – time-based concepts are critical to create ideas, connect to classes and even manage tasks.
Check it out – note that when sites switch from Flash to other resources, some links may not work. I found Flash works in my Safari browser on Mac, but Chrome had some issues, so I installed the Flash Embed plugin.
With another collection of interactive websites (archive and “my” above if also included in remote use) I also recommend UEN Interactives. Anyone else feeling cartoonish? I feel like my students are getting a little crazy, my patience is running out and I just want to sleep! =) Is there anyone with me??

Even though we were on the coo-coo side, we got a lot of work done!
Last week we taught the calendar: parts of the calendar, reading the calendar, etc. My students are already quite strong in this area, but we will teach and open, modify and spread it to everyone! The reason it’s so important is because we do the Starfall calendar every day in the morning meeting. The Starfall Calendar is an awesome way to get students talking and interacting with the calendar. I just added a bookmark to my desktop so it’s easy and ready to go! Before I liked the fantasy interactive whiteboard, I used my projector and laptop and a wireless mouse. If you don’t have an interactive whiteboard, we highly recommend a wireless mouse. They are about $20, but it is worth it. He just went to hand the mouse and the students joined!
Click on the calendar and you’re done! AND if you haven’t checked out this site… DO IT NOW! Especially if you teach Kindergarten or first grades.
I love this calendar and site… My students are excited to play even though they can play any Starfall game! The best part? It’s free!!! You can see in the image above that there are small icons that mark specific actions
