Although the United States is not an official Spanish-speaking country, Spanish has a large population there. According to Forbes magazine,

In the US, 13 percent of the population speaks Spanish at home, making it the most common non-English language. The US also has the 2nd largest Hispanic population in the world (Mexico has the largest). And according to data, by 2050 one in three people in the US. speak Spanish (this data includes bilingual people who also speak English).
Some sources only mention 20 Spanish-speaking countries because Puerto Rico is an indigenous culture. Despite the controversy over this, I have included 21 in my list and maps. Those countries are:
In these 21 countries, you can find different types of pronunciation, use of specific pronouns and verbs, and local dialects.
There is a big difference between the dialect of Latin America and Spanish, although people from both places understand each other well.

Most people think that Brazil, Belize, French Guiana and/or Guyana are included because they are Latin America.
Don’t be fooled – the official language in Brazil is Portuguese, English in Belize and Guyana, and French in French Guiana!

During the colonial period, the language spread from Spain and became an official language in many parts of Latin America and even one country in Africa.
Although many of Spain’s former colonies had declared their independence in the 1800s, Spanish was the most common language used in government affairs at the time. Many native languages have declined or disappeared.
