A few other recent trends I’ve also become obsessed with are the creative displays people put up to lift the mood of their neighbors while they’re out walking. The three we participate in are chalk walks, bear hunts and art galleries.
Your walking patch is simple. Grab some sidewalk chalk, go to your driveway or walk, and create encouraging words or pictures for those who pass by! I ordered a large box of chalk from Amazon. Bonus Chalk Sidewalks are a great way to keep kids busy while enjoying the sun and fresh air.
. The premise is that while the children are walking, they try to spot the bears that are hiding. We put some teddy bears in our windows facing the street.
Stained Glass Flowers
Window art galleries are my new favorite trend! For the past week and a half we have been decorating our front window with themed projects made by the girls. Last week it was clover. This week it’s flowers. I discovered a Facebook page for our base that shared a weekly themed calendar that we will be following.
During our little homeschool adventures, we spend a lot of time doing art and science projects. It really helps the girls not to burn out too much.
Today’s floral themed project was to create stained glass flowers with tissue paper. Given my love of paper towel solar projects, this was an idea we had to do for our window gallery. And I’m glad we did! They all turned out so cute! Don’t be surprised if each weekly theme ends with a solar attraction/fire glass project.
This project starts like most of my craft projects – with a Cricut! Using 12″ x 12″ black cardstock, I cut out a variety of flower designs. I used Cricut images for these flowers so my canvas is available to anyone who has the space to design! Just remove the flowers you don’t want to use!

Each flower design is then glued onto a transparent shelf sheet. You can find these things anywhere from Walmart, Dollar Tree, Home Depot. I actually ordered from Amazon.
Then comes the fun part! Stick to small squares of tissue paper! Amazon sells pre-cut tissue paper squares or you can easily cut them yourself. These craft projects actually require very little tissue paper, so it’s not difficult to cut quickly. Plus, if you’re like me, you have a whole container of paper towels that you’re begging to use!
Usually, when I have all my little squares completely lined up, I add a second shelf sheet to the uncovered side of the project to protect both sides. Since the plan for the next few weeks is to create a bunch of these projects, I decided to save the materials. So far the projects seem to be going well.
Regardless of whether or not there is a back sheet for the project, the final step is to remove the excess clear shelf. Usually with sharp scissors, the blade simply slides along the edge of the cardboard, creating a clean, smooth edge. You can then drill a hole and use string to hang the project or simply tape it to the window.

This project can be designed by cutting tissue paper into larger or smaller squares to suit any age. Using larger squares is much easier for younger kids and helps the project go a little faster!
