Your essay should be typed and double-spaced on regular-size paper (8.5″ x 11″), with 1″ margins on all sides. Include a page header (also known as a “running header”) at the top of each page. For a professional paper this contains your title and page number For a student paper this contains only the page number To create a Page Header/Running Header enter the page number on the right then write “Your Project Title” in capitals on the left side of the header flush letters Running Head It is an abbreviated version of the thesis title and should not exceed 50 characters including spaces and punctuation.

The seventh edition of the APA Publication Manual requires that the font chosen be accessible (ie legible) to all readers and used consistently throughout the paper. He acknowledges that many font choices are legitimate, and he advises writers to contact their publishers, mentors, or institutions for guidance when in doubt.

While the APA Manual does not specify a single font or set of fonts for professional writing, it does recommend several widely available fonts. These include sans serif fonts such as 11 point Calibri, 11 point Arial and 10 point Lucida Sans Unicode, as well as serif fonts such as 12 point Times New Roman, 11 point Georgia, 10 point Computer Modern.

Note: APA 7 provides slightly different guidelines for formatting the title pages of professional articles (eg, those intended for academic publication) and academic articles (eg, submitted for credit in a high school or college course).

The title page should include the title of the paper, author name and institutional affiliation. A professional article should also have an author’s note. The student’s paper must also state the number and name of the course, the teacher’s name and the due date of the project.

Enter your title in upper and lower case, centered on the top half of the page. The title should be centered and written in bold. The APA recommends that your title be focused and concise, and not contain acronyms or words that don’t serve a purpose. Your title may take up a line or two. All text on the title page, and throughout your paper, should be double spaced.

Under the title, enter the author’s name: first name, middle initial, and last name. Do not use titles (Dr.) or degrees (PhD).

Under the author’s name, enter the institutional affiliation, which should indicate the place where the author(s) studied.

A professional article should include an author’s note below the institutional affiliation below the title page. This should be divided into several paragraphs and paragraphs which are not relevant should be left out. The first paragraph should include the author’s name, the symbol for the ORCID iD, and the URL for the ORCID iD. All authors who do not have an ORCID iD should be skipped. The second paragraph should indicate any changes in affiliation or death of the authors. The third paragraph should include any information or acknowledgments, such as study enrollment, open practice and data sharing, disclosure of related reports and conflicts of interest, and acknowledgment of financial and other support. The fourth paragraph should include the corresponding author’s contact information.

Again, note that page headers/page numbers (described above for professional and academic essays) also appear at the top of the title page. In other words, the title page of a professional journal will have the journal title flush in all caps on the left and the page number on the right, while a student journal will only have the page number flush on the right.

Start a new page. Your summary page should already have a page header (described above). On the first line of the abstract page, center and bold the word “abstract” (no italics, underlining, or quotation marks).

Starting on the next line, write a brief summary of the main points of the study. (Do not indent.) Case studies show information about an individual, a group, or a large group of individuals. These topics are analyzed for specific reasons and the author reports his research methodology and results. The author may also make suggestions for future research, generate possible theories, and/or determine a solution to the problem.
