Rcl Vision Of The Seas – We are on a 5-night Western Caribbean cruise aboard Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas. As we enjoy our first day at sea, we wanted to share our first impressions of the Vision.
Boarding: Royal Caribbean holds the record for passenger boarding times on Vision of the Seas. We were on board at 10:40am, over 6 hours before the ship was scheduled to depart.

The only line we had to wait in was waiting for security to open. Once we passed security, we checked in to receive our room keys and immediately boarded the ship. Great job by Royal Caribbean to get passengers on board so quickly, it was a great way to start our cruise.
Royal Caribbean Returning To New Orleans With Vision Of The Seas
The ship: Although Vision of the Seas is one of the oldest ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet, a renovation last fall brought some modern innovations to the ship.
The ship never feels crowded unless you’re next to the dining room when dinner goes out or in the show lounge after a show. There seem to be plenty of sunbeds by the pool, although on sea days the best spots are taken early as they are on all cruises.
Solarium: The Solarium is an adults only (16+) gated area with a Mayan theme that has a swimming pool and 2 hot tubs. It’s right next to the Vitality Spa, so you’ll have easy access to the sauna and steam room.
This has quickly become one of our favorite spots on the ship and is the most peaceful pool to relax in. There is also a small cafe so you can have a meal without leaving this area.

Boardwalk: While the Vision’s boardwalk doesn’t go all the way around the ship (all but the bow), it’s wider than most ships’ boardwalks, and there are plenty of lounge chairs to sit and enjoy those ocean views
At night, it’s one of our favorite places for a quiet, relaxing walk and to escape from all the ship’s activities.
Cabin: Our ocean view cabin is showing its age, but the upgraded bathroom and flat screen TV are a nice modern touch. There was a spacious wardrobe for our 5 night cruise for my wife and I. Sleeps 4, but I can’t imagine how crowded it would be with 2 other people staying in the cabin with us.
There was some confusion about our cabin as it had been set up with 2 single beds even though we said it was our birthday on our cruise booking. We laughed as my wife joked about how we got the “Dick Van Dyke Show Special”. Our cabin attendant quickly changed the bed to a queen when we brought it to his attention.

Staff: The staff at Vision is great. Assistant Master Alex has done an incredible job on the Windjammer. The service you provide is the best I have ever received at a buffet at sea.
Some of the staff remember my name from the first time I met them. Also, several people have asked about my last name and are interested in knowing it. In all my travels, I have never wondered this much. The crew has done a great job so far on this cruise.
Internet: The internet speed on board seemed faster with my own tablet and smartphone than with the computers provided by the ship. They offer unlimited wifi for the duration of the cruise for $99. For those like me who need to stay connected, it’s a good thing.
The Internet speed is also much better than I have experienced on a cruise ship. Although DSL speeds are not close to home, they are much faster than dial-up speeds on most ships.
