Rainforest Diorama – Hello! Today I’m going to show you how to make a diorama of a tropical rainforest ecosystem. This may sound difficult to do, but it is very simple. I hope you enjoy learning!

Take the foam board, fold it in half at the 15-inch mark. It forms a 90 degree angle.

Take the sky blue bristle board, cut it to fit the vertical part of the foam board, then hot glue it to the top of the foam board.

Add large rocks and soil to form the perimeter of the pond. Next, add small candy rocks on top of the clay.

Hot glue or tape the leaves to the back of the board. Paint 2 wooden pegs brown for the tree trunks. Then tape the original addresses to the clips. Then to glue it to the foam board, you can heat glue the bottom of the dowel. Place one tree at the front of the board and one at the back.

Take some fondant, knead it with little sugar so that it is not sticky. Then shape it to fit the pond. Next, paint the fondant brown (I mixed sky blue, green, and white to create the color). Place the fondant inside the circle made of dirt and rocks. Finally, sprinkle some blue sugar over the pool.

Take two turning blocks and a toothpick to connect them. When the turning blocks are connected, paint them brown and set them to dry. Once they are dry, place them on top of the moss. (I made 2 logs)

To make the waterfall shelf, take a small box and paint it brown. When it dries, hot glue the box and place it where you want the waterfall to come out.

Paint the three butterfly cutouts with different colors. Draw/paint an orange, a blue and a green and black outline. Then take all the animal stickers, figures and candy and place them on the board.

Take a bowl of ice cream and cut the entire bowl. The shape of the cut piece should be rectangular. It is used to support waterfall hobby. Then take the fondant and add blue food coloring to it. Then shape the fondant into thin long strips, you may need 4 to 5 strips. Add color to all stripes. The strips should be the same size as the cut rectangular plastic. Now take all the fondant and place the cutouts on the ice cream bowl.

After painting the bottom of the bristle board with green acrylic paint, I noticed that the board warped a bit after the paint dried. To avoid this you can use green bristle board and glue it to the foam. Often a fun part of craft classes for kids, stage displays can be made from an old shoebox. While your little ones can dip their hands into a multitude of colors, you can put toys and cutouts inside the box for some crafty adventures.

My third grade son came home and told me he had a project to do for school. He chose to create a diorama of a rainforest. We made the mistake on a previous project of using our 3D printer to support the first parts. His whole class knows we have one and he is “expected” to use it, at least his classmates do. So I asked him to design and create the scene he wanted and we would use 3D printing to make it cool.

How To Make A Rainforest Diorama

After drawing the vision he had in his head, we began planning how to bring it to life. Since this is her project, I made her do most of the work. He made a plan (which he later destroyed, so I can’t post a picture of it). We used a file box from our office, cut out the front, put foam on the bottom and he put markers on what else he wanted.

The 3D prints came out very well. However, they were still very raw. So I tried a new technique to smooth them out. This is called a hot acetone steam bath. I was quite impressed with the results.

After some of my previous results produced rough results, members of the instructables community suggested using an acetone steam bath to smooth and polish my 3D printed parts. This is an interesting technique with different types of explanations. I decided to use a hot bath (mainly because I couldn’t do a cold bath properly). You should use an uncovered heat source, such as a rice cooker or pot. Let it warm (not hot). Place a holder or something underneath to prevent the printed material from touching the acetone. Once it rises, pour the acetone into the pot and put the lid on. I plugged the hole in the lid to let in more steam. Let it sit for about 15 minutes (depending on the size of the print). When it comes out, it will be soft, so lift it up on a raised stand. Do not try to touch the print. Once it dries, it will look very smooth and highly polished.
