There are so many different variations of our friend, the Rainbow Fish, every time I make this craft – that’s actually my favorite part, seeing how they all look.

When you read the story to your kids and they fall in love with Rainbow Fish, they can’t contain themselves when you share Rainbow Fish Craft with them!
It is important to choose heavy paper or cardstock when printing your Rainbow Fish craft pattern. In this way, the weight of the tissue paper and the handmade decoration is supported by a sturdy paper base. We decided to go with blue cardboard because rainbow fish are mostly blue. The kids even said it looks like he’s in the water!
The Rainbow Fish Lesson Plan
Once you have your rainbow fish cut out, apply a generous amount of glue to a small section of its scales before placing the tissue paper squares on its body. Quickly cover the glue with squares of colored tissue paper. Repeat until his body is completely covered with beautiful squares of tissue paper.
I love seeing the kids get their creative spin on this craft! He opened the book for some inspiration and set to work to create a beautiful masterpiece!
Once the rainbow fish is decorated to your child’s liking, add the final touch…its shiny scales! We cut squares from metallic paper. This was definitely the highlight of this craft!
I love the result and his creativity! Some have chosen to roll the tissue paper into balls, while others lay them flat. He also used crayons to add more depth and color to the Rainbow Fish. I thought it was great when they decided to give the rainbow fish a home with a beautiful ocean floor!
