I first sketched the owl in pencil, and when I was happy with the size and shape of the design, I used a biro to trace the lines.

First, I used an apple corer and cut 2 holes through the pumpkin, which turned out to be the perfect size for the eye centers.

I then used a small scalpel to cut into the skin of the pumpkin, removing the orange layer, but not going all the way.

I later decided that more light might be needed so a narrow slit was cut through the skin in the hollow wing area
