I’ve seen them used a lot in morning pools as well. All you need is a set of pattern blocks and pattern block cards. Easy to set up and get started.

Magnetic pattern blocks are a great way to use these printable mats. Simply print the mat and place it on a cookie sheet or magnetic easel. Thanks for that! The link seems to be broken, but I was able to find some sample block mats on the Kinder website. We already have a Patternbles book but most of the pages are too rough for my almost 3 year old. A couple of Kinder rugs seem simple enough for my little boy. Some of the hard ones would be fun for my 6 year old. Thanks again for a great simple idea!

Pattern Block Templates To Change The Way You Think About Teaching

There are lots of fun learning activities that can be done with pattern blocks, including symmetry, fractions, tessellations, angles and more. Pattern blocks can be used for creativity, art, writing, and more beyond math.

One option is to use digital pattern blocks. Although there is nothing like working with plastic blocks in real life, students can still do many activities in the virtual version.

To help with this, I’ve created a free Google Drawings template with virtual template blocks. In addition to the blank template, I’ve made a few sample activities to show you some ideas of how they can be used. See below for more details and get your own copy of all these resources.

Printable Pattern Block Templates

The basic pattern block template is a blank canvas with a Google Drawing from each pattern block on the left side of the canvas. Each of the six pattern block shapes and colors is perfectly recreated in the pattern. Pattern blocks can be copied, pasted, moved, rotated and flipped in any way you want for your learning activity.

As mentioned above, you can copy and paste the template block shapes into your activity. Google Drawings gives you many options to move, rotate, and rotate the template blocks as needed. You can use the mouse or keyboard, or a combination of both, to manipulate the shapes as needed. See the full list of options below.

You can use the basic pattern block template to create all kinds of learning activities. For example, I have created some functions shown below. For each task I have included a template that you are free to copy and use if you wish.

Pattern blocks are a tool that can be used for many creative and learning activities. With a quick Google search, you can find tons of activities using physical template blocks that you can easily adapt to this Virtual Google Maps template. Or you can create your own projects.
