Baby Green Pixie Elf Hat

This is my new model that comes in sizes from 0/3 months to men’s XL, yes ALL of these sizes. This is my way of giving you all a blank canvas to create your own costumes and cosplays, following the popularity of my crochet ET costume! You can find this model here:

NOTE: Use a pin to mark the LAST stitch in each round! This is important because this ear is designed to bend slightly and not follow a standard rise and fall pattern. I only pick up the outermost line of the tip so I don’t stretch the tip of the piece and leave a gap. We want those ears to work RIGHT. MARK THE CIRCLES!

Make a magic circle: Make sure you mark the circles, just one stitch will change the shape of the ear and it won’t fit well.

Do not join or turn the circles, knit a spiral. When indicated to repeat: repeat only the instructions in parentheses immediately before the repeated instructions (this applies here and throughout the pattern)

* The above rounds are 1-2 which will be a little difficult to work, you can help by not working too tight in the first 2 rounds and not pulling the magic circle tight until you get a bit more length. They will ALSO probably turn inside out, take a second and rock this piece so that the right side of the seams are facing out again. The remaining rounds will become easier 

Row 22: sc in nxt 3 sc, (sc dec on nxt 2 sc) THREE times, sc in last 12 sc. (18)

Rnd 24: (sc dic on nxt 2 sc) SIX times, sl st to 1st made, leaving a long tail for the opening of the closed stitch and to attach the ear to the hat

I think they look best when attached to the lower inner ear, leaving all the edges free, similar to a real ear.

I also embellished them with some flat back rhinestones and E6000 glue because my fairy dreams are wonderful!

This model is made from the bottom up and recommends using 2-3 colors. The thread in the pattern will be labeled “Color A”, “Color B” and “Color C”. Color A refers to the color used for the double crochet rounds. This color will be the dominant color of your hat. Color B refers to the color used for the individual crochet rounds. Color C, which is optional, refers to the color used for the ribbon and pompom.

The entire hat part of this pattern is worked only in the last loops (blo). This creates a ridged structure around the hat. Note that you will always work in the back lines for this model only.

Crochet Tutorial: Elf Ears

There is a video tutorial for beginners to watch if you are learning to crochet or if you are unsure about reading crochet patterns. If you are an intermediate or advanced crocheter, you probably don’t need to watch a video tutorial.

Below you will find sizing information for each hat. Please note that the girth may stretch 1-2″ when worn as needed.

Round 1: Color A: Ch 47 (counts as a stitch). Dc in fourth chain from hook and in each chain (45 sts). After you have crocheted each chain, join the end with the 3rd chain with slst to form a circle. Binding Using a patchwork needle, thread the original tail (from the slipknot) and knit the 1st chain (from your ch 3) into the bottom of the last single stitch to close part of the circle down.

Round 2: Color B: Ch 1 (counts as a stitch). Sc in blo of each stitch (45 sts). Combine with slst into one chain and tie off.

Round 3: Color A: Ch 3 (counts as a stitch). Dc in each stitch block (45 sts). Join with a slst to the 3rd chain and fasten off.

Round 4: Color B: Ch 1 (counts as a stitch). Sc in blo of each stitch (45 sts). Combine with slst into one chain and tie off.

Round 5: Color A: Ch 3 (counts as a stitch). Dc in each stitch block (45 sts). Join with a slst to the 3rd chain and fasten off.

Round 6: Color B: Ch 1 (counts as a stitch). Sc in blo of next 6 sts. *Make Sc dec on the next 2 rows. Sc in next 7 sts. Repeat from * by decreasing 5 sc in total. (40 sts). Combine with slst into one chain and tie off.

Round 7: Color A: Ch 3 (counts as a stitch). Dc in each stitch block (40 sts). Join with a slst to the 3rd chain and fasten off.

Round 8: Color B: Ch 1 (counts as a stitch). Sc in blo of each stitch (40 sts). Combine with slst into one chain and tie off.
