Easy Christmas Gnome Cookies

I’m sure Pillsbury cookies are every kid’s introduction to salmonella. I grew up eating at least a spoonful of raw Pillsbury cookie dough every time I baked a chocolate chip cookie. My parents discovered my love for raw cookie dough and warned me about the dangers of foodborne illness. I can understand why parents would hate for their 9-year-old daughter to have these symptoms, but as an adult, I’m willing to risk all that raw chocolate chip cookie dough.

When I was a kid, I even thought the Pillsbury Doughboy, AKA, Poppin’ Fresh looked delicious. Oh, come on, don’t you think it looks like a mini marshmallow? Pillsbury’s marketing team is gone. Like the golden brown chocolate chip cookies I’m still buying ten years later.

Growing up, Pillsbury was ready to bake chocolate chip cookies as a year-round treat in our home. Don’t get me wrong, I love Betty Crocker & Toll House, but there was always frozen cookie dough in the house. When Halloween or Christmas rolls around, I take some time away from Pillsbury chocolate chip cookies for sugar cookies.

I made sure to pair my soul, Scooby-Doo, with cookies and crackers with Pillsbury’s Pumpkin Spice Rolls, Fresh Caramel Apple Cookies, and Pumpkin Cream Cookies. I’ve enjoyed all of them, but let me talk about the pumpkin rolls first. It’s huge, and the center of the roll is literally to die for. It was moist, tasty and very warm even after it had been refrigerated for 15 minutes.

Salted Caramel Apple Cookies make the house smell delicious. Not only the kitchen, but the entire house was amazing. I couldn’t find them.

Tip: add some vanilla ice cream on top of these delicious cookies. It’s so delicious and I do the same with my fudge brownies.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and put the cookie dough on a new sheet. These are great baked on ungreased cookie sheets!

, and I use it for every special occasion as a reason to bake cookies. It is said that cookies can be addictive and I have to say, I might be a victim of a Pillsbury cake recipe Santa also told me he would put under the tree too. Just saying ‘…

We’ve been in Christmas mode all over here! All the decorations came out, Christmas cookie cutters, Christmas cookie cutters, Christmas plates, party tablecloths I didn’t even know I had…you get the picture.

It all comes with birthday cookies, of course. Kids are the best helpers and they have so much fun, even if it’s more stressful when they help me out. It’s all part of making fun memories. (Secret confession: We usually make the cookies when John is still at work because it doesn’t involve the amount of mess and confusion that comes when the three of us bake together.)

We made Santa cookies for our preschool Christmas B show, and I swear I put them on the table and kids flocked to them like moths to a light. They paused for two seconds, which caused B to cry because he didn’t understand it. I’m fine and saved a couple at home.

Santa Sugar Cookies

I made two doughs: sugar and gingerbread to make a different Santa Claus. The recipe below contains the only fondant I make all year long. The gingerbread dough I always use is very tasty and uses orange zest – straight from Gimme Some Oven. Check this out if you want to make gingerbread dough too.

This is my favorite sugar cookie dough because it rolls out really well and doesn’t spread when baking, which is a must for short sugar cookies.

Just be sure to chill the sugar cookie dough in the refrigerator for about two hours before rolling and cutting the dough. When it’s time to roll out the dough, I cut out the cookies with a 2-inch cookie cutter. You can of course use a small cup lid if you don’t have a round cookie cutter.

First, melt the red candy melts and white chocolate sauce in the microwave for an additional 30 seconds until melted. Only make one cup at a time because the candies and chocolate will cool quickly. You can always melt more in the microwave if needed.

Cover each side of the biscuit with pink icing and the other side with white chocolate. Note that I say pull because there is no need for a biscuit dip to coat both sides. Save the melted chocolate and candy and top them with chocolate brownies or candy melts.

Next, put a little icing around the bottom edge of the candy cane to make a Santa hat. I love the Wilton icing tip because it’s already ready to use star tip. You can easily make your own ice cream.

For the last bonfire of a winter star, add boiled mini marshmallows for Santa’s hat. Then make eyes out of black icing.

Finally, add a small piece of crumb to the back of the M&M (I always add the side with the letter M on it so the cookie doesn’t come out) and stick it to Santa’s beard.
