Photo Booth Glasses Prop Templates – Last week I posted a photo of my photography shop on the Silhouette School Facebook page and I was immediately asked where the design could be purchased. Guess what it looks like – it’s free thanks to PicMonkey!
Did you catch him? I love my PicMonkey. If you’re not familiar with monkey, check out the most amazing and free photo editors and designers on the web. I’m not kidding. PicMonkey has tons of free designs, and since you can save them in JPEG format, that means they can be turned into free Silhouette designs too. (More on importing JPEGs and GIFs into Silhouette Studio in a minute.)

Today I’m going to share a fun tutorial on making a DIY photobooth tool. Photo booth costumes often include mustaches, beards, hats, glasses, tiaras, lips, thought bubbles, and objects, depending on the theme of the party, wedding, or celebration (or maybe you made them for your kids. Reasons other than being a rock star mom )! Guess what…PicMonkey is also in total rockstar status! Let’s start.
Diy Photo Props
On the left, click on the butterfly icon (green in the screenshot below) to open the Overlay design.
Note: Many of the PicMonkey designs are free… but there are some with little gold crowns next to them. This means that the design is part of the paid Royale package. I love PicMonkey so much and use it so often (hello, every.single.day) that paying $33 a year for access to all the awesome designs and fonts is a no-brainer. *** THIS WEEK ONLY GET ROYALE FREE TRIAL ***
Double-click the designs you want to add to your workspace. Resize them and arrange them in your PicMonkey workspace. They don’t need to get used or anything, but leave a space between each design. To keep things simple for this tutorial, I’ll be working with just a few – a mustache, a beard, and glasses.
Now save your design by clicking ‘Save’ on the gray toolbar at the top. Name the file and make sure it saves as a .jpeg. I’m trying to save it to my desktop so it’s easy to find.

Open Silhouette Studio and at the same time go to the folder where your PicMonkey design is saved. Click on the file name and drag it into Silhouette Studio. For more help importing JPEGs into Silhouette Studio, click here. It will get quite large, so use a square to make it small enough to fit in your workspace in Studio.
Now I usually track all my designs at once – but these are a little different so I tracked them separately. The mustache and beard are quite straight.
Mustache (a solid design with only one cut line): Draw a box around the design > Undo the high pass filter (this avoids the double cut lines you usually have) > Trace the outer edges.
Chin (pattern in solid color but with more than one cut line): Draw a box around the design > Deselect High Pass Filter > Trace (so the mouth opening is still traced and now just the outer edge of the chin)

Glasses (lots of cut lines and complicated design): Glasses have a lot of glare on them, so you’ll end up with a lot of cut lines, as seen below, if you only do the ‘traces’ you don’t want.
You just need to cut out the lens and the glasses. There are many ways to do this, but the way I’m going to show you is the fastest and easiest in my opinion. We will actually make two traces and then combine the cutting lines.
First click ‘Select Trace Area’ > Draw a box around the mirror > Deselect the high pass filter > Move the threshold strip up (so the mirror is on – almost all yellow) > Outline the outer edge.
Now you can remove the JPEG and crop only the edges of the glasses. Don’t delete the JPG yet! You will make the second clue.

The second mark will bring us a lens. Move the jpeg glasses close, without overlapping with other designs.
Now remove the JPG and delete it. Your trace will look like this.
To get a view only, you need to select the all cup cut design > ungroup and/or mixed release route. Then you will only be able to choose views. Move them, at the same time, into the first sunglass slot you made.
I promise you it took me 30 times longer to write all of that than When It Makes Those Tracks Real.

Before we begin, and because I don’t want to create confusion, this article will tell you how.
Ideally, you’ll read this tutorial at the beginning because as we go along, we’ll be implementing the concepts mentioned in the demonstration steps.
Before you start your design process, you need to think about the materials you want to use for your photo.
Materials may vary depending on the machine you own and how you intend to use the photo prop.

For example, if you own a Cricut Maker, you can create very durable photo materials by cutting plywood or thin woods like basswood and balsa.
If you plan to make photo props for your business or need to use them often, the best way is to use a thicker material that you can cut with your machine for extra durability.
For example, you can cut out a layer of poster board and another layer of glitter cardstock and glue them together to create a durable photo.
Not only do you have to think about the durability of the photo prop, but you also have to think about how you want to embellish it.

You can stay in the realm of paper or you can use materials like iron or vinyl.
If you are in the paper space, you will experience letter mania. And there will be some manual process where you have to glue each letter during the assembly process.
You cannot use vinyl glue on glitter cardstock, and if you use vinyl glue on paper, the bond is not permanent (you can remove the jewelry with your fingernail). Iron-on would be a good choice, but it is also more expensive.
Because I want you to experiment and play with what you have on hand, learning about the possibilities of materials will influence how you design your photos, how you crop them, and how you compose them.

There are many ways you can create photo props with your Cricut. How you design and cut it depends on the materials you have on hand or want to use based on what I mentioned in the overview section.
Insert squares and triangles into the canvas area by clicking on the “Shape” icon located on the left sidebar, then click on the text and type the words you want to use on the photo.
Initially both shapes will be grey, select the square and unlock the aspect ratio (small padlock in the left selection or in the top menu) to create a square.
Rotate the triangle from the upper right corner of the selection and place it on the corner of the square.

When the location is correct, press shift (all the time) on the computer and select the square and rectangle. Then click on “Connect” to create a single shape.
Tip: Your message will be on the back after welding. Select the new shape, then right-click on it and select the “Move Back” option.
If you’re working with thin material, I suggest duplicating the rectangle to add extra durability to your photo.
On the other hand, if you’re working with a thick material like plywood or poster board, a single rectangle will be fine.

Before we move on to the next technique, here are some SVG templates that you can follow and use for personal projects. You must be on desktop to save them.
We won’t use them all in this tutorial, but there are plenty of places to practice and make photo props for any occasion.
