We started with this article on DTLK-bible.com. Ian glued the pieces to the cards (some of our pages proved too sharp so I think I’ll use them here and there) and let me add the fish stickers that Ian made. We then painted the water part with blue glitter paint for a special touch.

Fortunately, we review our Bibles each week as we read them, so I know he’ll get it eventually. This is definitely the least week. For some reason iTunes won’t open for me and I haven’t tried reinstalling it. So we don’t have a playlist to listen to. Along the way, we picked out our book “Before Five” along with our Bible story (we also have a project planned) and never opened it. Instead, we had a wonderful “nature study” yesterday. We went to the lake and park, watched ducks and some turtles, and even found some small shell remains that caught Ian’s eye. I am determined to make this a part of my children’s education. All this is to say that our days without Bible study are not wasted! Weeks like this make me truly grateful that we started getting used to the “school” routine long before we had to worry about “official” homeschooling. It will definitely take time to make it part of our busy schedule!

We read the story together and talked about how God used Moses to part the Red Sea so that the Israelites could escape from Pharaoh’s army. We talked about how big the sea was and how much power God needed to perform such a great miracle. I asked the kids if they thought they could, and they said no.
We decided to try it with just a bowl of water and rice. I showed them once, hitting as hard as I could to break the water. They are willing to try and do. The bear tried his best with different strokes, different blowing methods and different angles, but he could barely separate the water. Pearl Girl just likes to blow and splash the water. I can make about 2 inch pieces if I try really hard. We talked about how powerful God is and how He used His power to save Israel. We talked about how if God is big enough to part the Red Sea, surely He is big enough to lead and protect us.

Last week we heard that Moses was going to Egypt with his brother Aaron. Moses and Aaron asked Pharaoh to allow the Jews to leave Egypt, but Pharaoh said no. God said He would show His power by sending disaster. There are 10 of them: water turned to blood, frogs, worms, flies, dead animals, boiling people, freezing with lightning and fire, locusts, three days of total darkness, and the death of the first born.
Pharaoh finally decided to let the people go. Pharaoh ordered Moses and Aaron to go to Egypt, and that night they gathered and went to Egypt. A lot of people and animals!
How did Moses and the people know where to go? May God guide them! He went before them in a pillar of cloud during the day and went into a pillar of fire to light fire to guide them at night.
Pharaoh decided to follow the people! He wants him back in Egypt! The Israelites were terrified when they saw Pharaoh’s army being chased, but Moses said that God would fight for them. The cloud was between the Israelites and the Egyptians. The Egyptians could not follow at night because it was dark from the clouds, but the Israelites were bright from the clouds!
