Paper Hot Air Balloon Mobile – Okay, I know I promised you I’d wait until March to reveal this project, but it’s so close, right? I love this mobile phone so much I couldn’t wait to show it off!
If you want to use a different theme, choose a symmetrical shape to create a three-dimensional effect. Mix it up!

*Note: Rubber cement works well for this project because it won’t crease the paper and it gives you time to draw the edge of your shape properly. Always use rubber cement in a well-ventilated area.

1. Using a template, draw and cut out ball shapes on colored paper. You will need to cut out 10 to 12 identical shapes for each balloon. Fold each shape in half lengthwise.
2. Using the templates, trace and cut out the clouds on the white paper and the birds on the blue. From these flat objects, cut two identical shapes for the front and back. To join, thread between two similar shapes and glue together.
Join the two parallel shapes by attaching the right half of one to the left half of the other.

3. Assembling three-dimensional hot air balloons: Assemble two matching shapes by gluing the right half of one half to the left half of the other. Make sure the edges are even. Continue joining the shapes together, then – before attaching the final shapes – add a length of hanging thread and glue to hold them in place.
4. Cut a thin strip of colored paper. Fold and adjust the bottom of the finished balloon, this will help keep its shape.
5. Attach two and three-sided items to the length of the thread, leaving 25 cm of clear thread at the end.
6. Once all of your material is attached to a length of thread, tie the top ends to your embroidery hoop and secure with two knots. Make sure the items are level and match the hoop to ensure they hang correctly. For little Emma, I wanted to make a mobile hot air balloon in her room. I’ve been looking for ideas on how to make the perfect paper mobile… I couldn’t find templates that I liked so I had to make them all from scratch. It will be like this…

To make the balloons, remove about 8 balloons from the template below, fold them in half, and glue one half of the balloon to the other half of the next balloon with glue or double-sided tape. To complete the balloon, don’t forget to add a dowel to hang the balloon on before gluing the last piece to the first piece… If that makes sense?
The same is true for the cloud. Just cut a pair, fold them and put the halves together. After all the pieces were put together and the balloon was complete, I added rhinestones to add sparkle.
