Oklahoma State University Graduation – Oklahoma State University awarded degrees to approximately 1,500 graduates in three commencement ceremonies this weekend at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Oklahoma Supreme Court Justice Steven Taylor, an Oklahoma State University graduate, spoke at both commencement ceremonies Saturday and urged graduates to “remember who loves you.” He also urged the graduates to remember their professors and teachers.

He received a standing ovation when he said: “It is no exaggeration to say that our democracy, our way of life, our republic cannot survive without our teachers and we should support them more.”

Taylor said, “As a judge, I can tell you the most important law. We all know it. It’s golden. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Follow this rule and justice will be done. Never turn your head from injustice.” .Never stop believing that you can make a difference.
Drawing inspiration from Harriet Tubman and Winston Churchill, he told the graduates to look boldly into the future. When Tubman led slaves to freedom, no matter the obstacle, he told them to “keep going.” Churchill told his early Oxford graduates, “Never give up.”
Taylor said, “Never give up on your dreams, your hopes, your happiness. Never give up on love, the goodness of people. The goodness of our country. Never give up on your faith, on your freedom. yourself.”
Taylor in 1971 graduated from OSU with a bachelor’s degree in political science, and in 1974 – Juris Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma School of Law. Taylor was appointed a state Supreme Court justice in 2004. He served as a Supreme Court judge from 2011 to 2013. and recently announced his plans to retire at the end of this year.

Robert H. Henry — a former university president, federal appeals court judge, Oklahoma attorney general and legislator — received an honorary doctorate and spoke at both commencement ceremonies.
“Today, together with your loved ones, the graduates, I thank you for the gift of graduation,” Henry said. “An investment you can really be proud of. I wish you all the best in your exciting life of change as you prepare to face it after graduating from a great university.
Each commencement ceremony began with the OSU Pipes & Drums Band leading graduates into Gallagher-Iba Arena where they were seated by the university.

College of Arts and Sciences students; Education, Health and Aviation; Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources was the first to walk across the stage after receiving his degree, waving to family and friends. Students of humanities higher schools; Engineering, architecture and technology; and the Spears School of Business celebrated the afternoon.
“Robert H. Henry is a well-respected Oklahoman,” said OSU President Burns Hargis. “He has been recognized throughout the state, nation and even the world for his knowledge of law and humanities. Robert Henry is truly a renaissance man.”
While still a student at the University of Oklahoma Law School, Henry was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives. He represented the district for 10 years, including his hometown of Shawnee. in 1986 He was elected Attorney General of Oklahoma and served until 1991. June, until becoming dean of the University of Oklahoma School of Law.
In 1994 President Bill Clinton nominated Henry to the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. He served as chief judge in 2008-2010.

Henry left the court and rejoined Oklahoma City University, this time as president and CEO. He held this position from July 2010 until his retirement in June 2018.
Henry gave five tips to the graduates, including: choose your first boss carefully, use social media carefully, save for retirement, take care of yourself, and realize that education never ends. Acclaimed author, television personality, entrepreneur and culinary icon Ree Drummond will speak at Oklahoma State University’s 2022 commencement address. at the spring commencement ceremony.
OSU’s graduation ceremony is scheduled for Friday, May 6, for graduate students and the College of Veterinary Medicine. Drummond will speak at the opening ceremonies on Saturday, May 7. The competition will be held at the Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Drummond made her hometown of Pawhuska, Oklahoma famous through her books and her Food Network show, Pioneer Woman. Hailing from Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Drummond has inspired thousands of homemade dishes that are essential in many home kitchens.

Dr. Kayse Shrum has had a strong start to her presidency with Chancellor Allison Garrett, Shrum’s first term last fall and Drummond’s first term this spring.
“Oklahoma State is pleased to welcome Ree Drummond as our spring commencement speaker,” said Shrum. “He is an inspiration and an Oklahoma treasure for his down-to-earth lifestyle and leadership. His entrepreneurial spirit and creativity opened up the Oklahoma prairie and way of life to the masses. I am excited for our students to hear about him as they begin their careers.”
After studying gerontology at the University of Southern California and living in Los Angeles after college, Ree eventually returned to Oklahoma, where she met her husband, Ladd. Four of their five children attended college; Their youngest is a junior at Pawhuska High School.
“If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s that life really is full of unexpected adventures,” Drummond said. “I am honored to celebrate this year’s OSU graduates and to have the opportunity to encourage them to remain open to all that life has to offer, both professionally and personally.”
Grace College 2021 Commencement Invites 2020 Graduates To Walk
The author of seven best-selling cookbooks, several children’s books and an autobiography, Drummond has connected with his fans through his warm personality and honesty.
Tickets are not required. Graduates will arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony through Boone Pickens Stadium Gate 1 South. Doors open to guests on the east side of Gallagher-Iba Arena one hour prior to the start of the ceremony.
On OSU’s sister campuses, the OSU Institute of Technology will hold its commencement ceremony on Friday, April 22, at Covelle Hall in Okmulgee.
The OSU Health Sciences Center will begin operations on Saturday, May 14, at the Mabee Center on the campus of Oral Roberts University. All graduation ceremonies will be streamed live on insideosu.com, with the exception of OSUIT, which will be available upon request at a later date. President Kayse Shrum last walked across the stage in 1998 and now confers degrees.

Dr. Shrum, who on July 1 has already served as president of Oklahoma State University, but he will preside over his first commencement ceremonies on Dec. 10 and 11. It is the 143rd start in OSU history.
In 2021 fall ceremonies mark a return to Gallagher-Iba Arena for the first time since 2019. December. Due to the pandemic in 2020 the ceremonies have been moved to 2021. in the spring, where they were held outdoors at Boone Pickens Stadium.
A graduate of OSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, Shrum said she was excited for her first graduation ceremony.

Garrett, who took office Nov. 8, is the state’s first female chancellor.
Garrett oversees a state system that includes 25 public colleges and universities, 11 agencies, one university center, and independent colleges and universities aligned with the state system.
Before becoming chancellor, Garrett was the 17th president of Emporia State University in Kansas and served as vice chairman of the NCAA Board of Governors. He also previously worked at Abilene Christian University in Texas and Oklahoma Christian University, of which he is an alumnus.
Garrett earned his bachelor’s degree from OCU, his juris doctorate from the University of Tulsa, and his master’s degree from Georgetown University.

Commencement will begin at 7 p.m., Dec. 10, and members of the graduating college will receive their degrees.
December 11 commencement ceremonies for the Ferguson College of Agriculture, College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology and College of Arts and Sciences at 10:30 a.m.
Ceremonies will conclude following the Spears School of Business and College of Education and Humanities ceremonies beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Graduates should arrive 30 minutes before the start of the ceremony and enter through the South Gate of Boone Pickens Stadium. Doors open to guests on the east side of Gallagher-Iba Arena one hour prior to the start of the ceremony.
