Oh The Places Youll Go Decorations
The color scheme for this Oh, Places You’ll Go party was inspired by the book’s cover art, featuring pastel shades of yellow, blue, orange, green, purple, and pink. I found that searching for pastel rainbow supplies helped me find the perfect decorations for an Oh, the Places You’ll Go party. Unicorn party accessories also go well with this color scheme.

Since the book has so many inspirational lines, much of our party decor was framed with Oh the Places You’ll Go quotes (listed below). I framed the quotes in IKEA 8″x10″ FISKBO frames in light blue and light pink, which went really well with the color scheme of the party.

This is one of the best quotes from the book and perfect for an inspirational piece of party decor.
Others Oh, to what places you will go! Quotes (I didn’t end up printing and framing them, but there were other good candidates):

The guestbook table sign (see the free printable link in the Printables section later in this post) was framed in an IKEA TOLSBY 4″x6″ frame (unfortunately, these frames are no longer available from IKEA, but you can get bulk on Amazon here ).

The table setting (which was inspired by this Oh, Places You’ll Go baby shower) was also a mix of rainbow pastel components:

Pink flowers Flowers are a cheerful way to liven up party decorations. For this Oh, Places You’ll Go graduation party, I used pink flowers (a selection of artificial flowers from IKEA) in the vases.

What would a party be without food? Here are the sweets and treats we have for this final theme from Dr. Seuss used.

I love using Candy Melt to easily incorporate a party color scheme into food (see my post Candy Melt Ideas: 4 Candy Melt Party Recipes for more ways to use Candy Melt). For this Oh, Places You’ll Go party, I dipped some items in white Candy Melts and then drizzled pastel Candy Melts in other party colors (light pink, orange, light yellow, light green, turquoise, and lavender) . As you will see, it was a little awkward for me at times, but no one seemed to mind.
Swirl Cupcakes. Decorating cupcakes with swirl icing was easy with this Wilton Color Swirl 3 Color Piping Bag Connector Kit. I decorated half of the cookies with pink, blue and yellow swirls, and the other half with orange, green and purple. For the toppers, I used the method from my Easy DIY Cupcake Toppers and Printable Cupcake Topper Art (see the Oh, Places You’ll Go Printables section below for a link to the free printable).
Cotton Candy Pops. In keeping with the theme, I made the pops on pastel colored paper straws instead of sticks. I think they look really cute, like truffle trees! I used this Wilton Pops Cardboard Stand to display them. The cardboard stand allowed me to make the holes a little larger to accommodate the size of the straws.
Lil’ Smokies wrapped in bacon. With all the sweets, we needed something savory that was easy to grab and eat. They worked flawlessly and were easy to make.

“On trip!” in bags of earthy candies. We found this idea on Pinterest and loved it! The theme of the party, “Oh the Places You’ll Go,” is reminiscent of travel, so we handed out foil-wrapped earthy chocolate candies in a plastic bag with a gift tag from A Little CLAIREification. One of my favorite books by Dr. Seuss’s Oh, the Places You’ll Go! The story, the colors, the illustrations make me happy. That’s why I chose this book as the theme for my son’s first birthday!
I can’t believe my daughter will be a year old in less than four months! My dear baby! She is most likely my last child, so this is so bittersweet. I won’t deny that I’m looking forward to more sleep and more independence from my daughter, but it’s SO hard not to be needed as the mom who’s basically been her lifeline for a year now!
After a short ugly rant I will try to focus on the adorable things I found to celebrate my son’s first birthday and look for inspiration for my daughter’s upcoming big event!!!
Dr Seuss Party: Oh The Places You’ll Go Party! First Birthday Celebration
As I mentioned before, I didn’t have a blog when my son was a baby, so I never had a chance to post about certain things. One of those things was his first birthday! I created the theme based on Dr. Seuss’ book Oh, The Places You’ll Go!
Although it is intended for children, it is also inspiring for adults! I love thinking about my son as I read the book and all the adventures life will take him on. It can be a little emotional if you let it
