Last week we learned about Moses going to Egypt with his brother Aaron. Moses and Aaron asked Pharaoh to let the Hebrew people leave Egypt, but Pharaoh refused. God said that He would show His power by sending punishments. There were 10 of them: water turned to blood, frogs, lice, flies, animals died, boiling among people, a storm with thunder and fire, locusts, three days of intense darkness and the death of the first child.
Moses And The Parting Of The Red Sea
Finally, Pharaoh decided to let the people go. Pharaoh asked Moses and Aaron to leave Egypt, and they packed their things and left Egypt that night. There were so many people and animals!
Where do Moses and the people know to go? God showed them the way! By day he went before them in a pillar of cloud, and by night he entered in a pillar of fire to give light and guide the way.
Pharaoh decided to go after the people! He wanted them to go back to Egypt! The Israelites were terrified when they saw Pharaoh’s army coming after them, but Moses said God would fight for them. The cloud went between the Israelites and the Egyptians. The Egyptians could not return at night because darkness came from the cloud and the Israelites received light from the cloud!
Moses stretched out his hand over the Red Sea and God sent a strong east wind. The waters rose and parted, and the Israelites crossed the Red Sea on dry land!

All the Egyptians were chasing them, but God wanted to slow them down. God stuck their wheels and made them fall, they couldn’t drive!
Moses stretched out his hand over the water and the water returned. The Red Sea covered all the people and chariots of Egypt!
God saved people! They believed in God and believed that they would guide Moses. (Exodus 13:20-14:31)
I made this Red Sea for the children to walk on, so they could pick up a shell from the dry land. As they pass, we grab the blue ‘water’ and shake it like an ocean.

The wall of water in the Red Sea can rise when Moses’ rod is present or when Moses’ rod falls. Look to Moses to repeat the Bible facts. Children put fish stickers on the side of the water bowl. Come, Follow Me – For Beginners: Old Testament 2022 “Exodus 14-17” The parting of the Red Sea was a miracle that showed Moses and the Israelites how powerful the Lord was. Knowing about his power can help children to believe in him.
God Led His People Through Moses Bible Activities
As you read Exodus 14:1-10, imagine how the Israelites felt when they saw Pharaoh’s army coming. Maybe you feel like you need a miracle to get out of a difficult situation.
Your family members may try to “part” the water in a cup or tub, just as Moses parted the Red Sea. Help them understand that the Red Sea cannot be parted by the power of God. How have we seen the power of God in our lives and in the lives of our ancestors?
With God’s help, Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt. They were afraid because they were stuck in the Red Sea and Pharaoh’s army was chasing them. “Moses said to the people, ‘Do not be afraid, stop and see the salvation of the Lord'” (Exodus 14:13).
Discussion: How did the children of Israel show faith by obeying the Lord’s commandment? How can we have faith when we face challenges in our lives?

Friend January 2021 “Bread Prayer” “How do you know when the Holy Spirit is speaking to you?” Carver asked his parents. They learn to listen to the Holy Spirit. Carver’s mother is baking bread and everyone is praying for someone to buy it for. Carver thought of Sister Smith and even heard the words come to him as he gave her the bread. He knew it was from the Holy Spirit.
The Israelites sing a song to Moses – They praise God as a warrior and rejoice in their deliverance from Egypt – The water of Myrrh heals – God promises to free Israel from the diseases of Egypt.
Moses Parting The Red Sea (craft)
Israel complains of a lack of bread and Egypt’s desire for meat – God calls bread from heaven and sends a crow for meat – Israel eats every day except the Sabbath for forty years.
Israel complains of lack of water – Moses throws a stone at Horeb, and the water flows – Aaron and Hur hold Moses’ hand so that Joshua can win against the Amalekites.
The accounts of God’s provision of food and water to the Israelites in the desert teach us that He can provide for our needs. If we turn to Jesus Christ, he can help us through the difficult times in our lives, just as he helped the Israelites.

A Preschool Water Experiment To Teach About Moses And The Red Sea Using The Jesus Storybook Bible
A reading of Exodus 16:1-5 and 17:1-7 may lead to the discussion of the Savior as the bread of life, the living water, and our rock. Do these stories remind us of what Jesus Christ did for us? As part of the discussion, you will read John 4:10-14; can read 6:29-35, 48-51; Helaman 5:12; Doctrine and Covenants 20:77, 79.
Come, Follow Me – For Beginners: Old Testament 2022 “Exodus 14-17” The Israelites won the battle against Amalek as Moses raised his hands in the air. What can we learn from this story about how to protect our leaders?
Following leaders is not just raising our hand, it means standing behind them, praying for them, accepting assignments and calls, listening to their advice and following them. Avoid criticism. (Follow me for Aaron’s Priesthood “What Does It Mean to Keep My Church Leaders?”)
[The Prophet] speaks to us at least three times during general conference—at the beginning of the conference (Saturday morning), at the end of the conference (Sunday afternoon), and usually during the Sunday morning meeting.
