Moses Parting Red Sea Craft – Moses Crossing the Red Sea has several different sections that can be divided into separate lessons. I only added them so that we could push more Bible people into the year we have students. This is lesson 4 of the second term.
Last week we learned that Moses was going to Egypt with his brother Aaron. Moses and Aaron told Pharaoh to let the Hebrew people leave Egypt, but Pharaoh said no. God said that He would show His power by sending plagues. There were 10 of them: water turned to blood, frogs, lice, flies, animals died, nuts, hail with thunder, locusts, three days of thick darkness and the firstborn died.

Finally Pharaoh decided to let the people go. Pharaoh told Moses and Aaron to leave Egypt and they left Egypt that night with their luggage. There were so many people and animals!

How did Moses and the people know where to go? God bless them! He went against them by day in a pillar of cloud, and by night in a pillar of fire to guide them and give them light.
Pharaoh decided to go after the people! He wanted them to go back to Egypt! The Israelites were terrified when they saw Pharaoh’s army following them, but Moses said that God would fight for them. The cloud went between the Israelites and the Egyptians. The Egyptians could not follow at night because it was dark from the cloud and the Israelites had light from the cloud.
Moses stretched out his hand over the Red Sea and God sent a very strong wind from the east. The waters rose and parted and the Israelites walked through the Red Sea on dry ground!
All the Egyptians followed them, but God wanted to slow them down. God stuck their wheels and they fell and they couldn’t drive!

Moses stretched out his hand again over the water and the water receded. The Red Sea covered all the people and chariots of Egypt!
God saved people again! They trusted God and trusted Moses to lead them. (found in Exodus 13:20-14:31)
I set up this red sea for the kids to walk through and they could get a shell from the dry land. As they cross we grab the blue ‘water’ and shake it so it looks like the sea.
I did these too, we took the kids around the room and then stopped at the ‘Red Sea’ display above us. You can see more and download it.

Print 1 of 2 pages on plain paper. Use kraft card stock, brown card stock, or brown construction paper as a template to cut the dry land. Glue to the center of a 9″ blue paper plate. Let it dry, then fold the sides of the paper plate up like you see above (it will look like a flat-bottomed taco).
The wall of water in the Red Sea can be high when the rod of Moses is up or down. All one has to do is turn to Moses for a retelling of the Bible. The true account of how Moses parted the Red Sea with his team can be found in Exodus chapter 14 of the Holy Bible. It is a wonderful story of a faithful man who trusted God when it looked dark to deliver salvation to his people. It’s a great story to teach our children how faith is a big part of our love for God.

2. Then color the template pieces using markers. The group was colorful for Moses and the boat in the Red Sea. This template can also be used for Moses and the 10 Commandments, but ignore the stone tablets for this craft.
4. Next, grab the blue card stock and cut two strips about 1” x 8.5”. Fold them like an accordion.

We started with the flannel board, read some Bible stories in the books, and finished with a clip of The Prince of Egypt. Ian watched all day
, but I’m not sure if he saw any links. We talked a bit about the situation over the next few days, but life got busy and we didn’t reconnect until today (Friday). And we talked a little about the story while we were working on the page for our Bible notebook.
Red Sea Archives
We started this journey from DTLK-bible.com. Ian glued the pieces to cardstock (some of our pages are too soft, so I think that’s what I’ll use from now on) and Ian let us add some fish stickers we had. Then we painted over the water parts with blue glitter paint for a special touch.
. As suggested in the lesson plan, I sang it to the tune of “London Bridge”. I sang it over and over while we worked on our craft because I had neglected it since Tuesday!

Luckily, we review it every week as we read our Bible notebook, so I know he’ll get it eventually. This was definitely a minimal week. For some reason iTunes won’t open for me and I couldn’t reinstall it. So we didn’t have a playlist to listen to. Before I had done our Bible story (and planned an activity) I had picked out a book in line five and we hadn’t even opened it once. On the other hand, we did a great “nature study” yesterday. We went to a park with a lake, looked at ducks and turtles, and even found the carcass of some small crustaceans that interested Ian. Moses And The Parting Of The Red Sea For Next Sunday
I am determined to make it a part of my children’s education. All this means that our days are not completely lost without Bible studies! Weeks like this make me truly grateful that we try to get into the “school” routine long before we have to worry about “officially” homeschooling. It will definitely take some time to make it a more solid part of our schedule!
