Easy Breezy Sunday School: Moses And The Burning Bush
Week 1: Baby Moses, without a doubt, our favorite part of the week was the Nile Rafting game! It was a great experience for our students and they love to “sit” with their baby Moses! 🙂
Week 2: The Burning Bush This week we learned that God is powerful enough to speak to us through the burning bush!
I wasn’t sure how my 3 and 4 year olds would do with traditional paper crafts, but they did great! Even my youngest boys were able to do it after I showed them once! And they loved it and asked for more pieces to cover their flames!
Week 3 & 4: The Plagues We spent two weeks talking about the plagues of Egypt… even though my SS syllabus only said one week. That’s just too much to pack into one week! The first week we talked about all the wounds, but we focused on frogs!

I generally thought that I also had stickers with frogs, and when I realized that it was not so. So at the last minute I punched holes in the green paper for the fake frogs. YES… everyone laughed! Like they had real frogs all over the table or something! Sometimes our Plan B is just as good or even better, right? 🙂
In the second week of the plague, we paid attention to Pharaoh’s stubbornness and how God’s power went to save his people… God will never give up on us! We matched the pictures with the words. I pre-cut circles for them just to make it quicker. And we’re working on finding the first letter of the words to help us match the pictures!
Week 5: The Red Sea We had so much fun on our boat in the Red Sea! While I was setting everything up, they painted Moses. Then I added a glue stick with tape to the “path” of the picture and the children poured sand on it. We poured the excess load back into the sand tank and got dry land!
Then we used a lot of paint (shaving cream, Elmer’s glue, and blue paint) to paint the sea of red walls on either side of our plot!

Week 6: 10 Commandments In the last week of Moses’ study we learned how God used his power to speak to the Israelites and wrote with his finger on stone tablets! This tutorial has been around for a long time. Sometimes older and well tested people are the best. I love that this can be transitioned to different age groups just by changing the style of the flare.
(I know it’s tempting, but don’t use your fabric circular cutter for this. If you use one knife for fabric only and one for paper only, both knives will last longer and work better. Just saying. )
2. Using a rotary cutter, cut the fabric into 9″ x 9″ squares. Each child needs one square of each color.
Classroom assignment: 1. Let each child draw and color a bush on the outside of the cup.

For younger children (kindergarten): ask them to fold a yellow, orange, and red napkin so that the edges change direction.
For older children (grades 1 and 2): tell them to tear up the paper and stick it inside the cup.
For older kids (3rd and up): have them cut flame shapes around the edges of each piece of fabric.

As a child, you probably faced a situation where you were busy with something, when suddenly your parents or other responsible adults ask you to drop everything and help them with something. Asking for new or additional responsibilities can be difficult for everyone, from children to adults. In such cases, knowing that you will have help and support can go a long way. It was the same with Moses. Moses was tending the sheep and saw a strange sight – a burning bush at the height of the mountain. When he went to study, he was surprised to hear God’s voice asking him to deliver His message to Egypt and set the Israelites free. Moses thought that this work was difficult for him, but with the help and support of God, he reached his goal.
Burning Bush Collage Light
Every time you see the light of your burning bush collage, remember that no matter where you are or what is happening in the world around you, God’s love is always there for us. God always hears us when we talk to Him, and even if we don’t get the answer we expect, we can always take comfort in the fact that God hears us and loves us.
Instructions: Use a permanent marker to draw branches on the outside of the bowl or jar to resemble the branches of a bush. Tear the scarf into small pieces. Pour some glue on the plate. Let the children use a paintbrush to mix some water with glue and draw it onto pieces of handmade paper. They can place the tissue paper inside the bowl or container until the container is completely covered. Place tea lights or an active glow stick inside.
