Wooden Car Garage Auto Service Diorama Model Kit Scale 1:18

I’m talking about the Modeling Club exhibits – a huge area where modeling clubs and organizations from all over Japan brought out their expertly built models and custom projects to share with the thousands of spectators who came through the Shizuoka Twin Messe over the weekend.

Vehicles, but I’m not exaggerating at all when I say this was one of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen while working on Speedhunter.

It doesn’t matter if you want to build or collect the models yourself, the stuff on offer here was awesome. In fact, for someone like me who struggles to build models without gluing everywhere and screwing on stickers, it was even more impressive. There is a lot to show here, so let’s not waste time getting started.

Let’s start with a modeling club called 1/24 Motoring. These guys have their fingers firmly on the pulse of car culture both in Japan and abroad, and their highly detailed custom models perfectly replicate what happens in the real world of cars.

Each car is perfectly modeled after the real VIP cars you’ll find at an event. Look at the hump!

Well, this thing is very similar to the Odyssey we saw at Wekfest Japan earlier this month. Many of the cars manufactured by 1/24 Motoring are actual replicas of specific cars from Japan and the USA.

This should be immediately recognizable as Akira Nakai’s RWB Rotana Porsche 993. Every detail was present and thought out.

And just as we love to change engines in our real cars, they love to do it with their models. Check out the Miata with the GM LS V8 housed in the engine bay.

Modeling also gives builders a chance to play with different ideas and build things that might not be possible in real life. A wrecked Mac gadget delivery truck, for example.

Ride height, wide wheels, a full roll cage, and a Dodge Viper V10 stuck into the engine bay. This stuff is amazing!

In many cases, the design has gone beyond mere highly detailed cars and trucks. Some builders have chosen to make their cars part of dioramas that represent colorful vignettes from the life of the car.

The horizon rusted under the cherry blossom tree. Check out details like the folded lid and the bricks that support the back.

Magic City Japanese Re Modification Body Shop Diorama (car Models Not Included)

The great thing about this diorama is its simplicity. However simple it may be, the sight of a Honda City sitting in front of a family restaurant is sure to stir up many nostalgic memories of 1980s Japan.

The builders have gone so far as to make the cars dirty and worn out, and if you look at them using presentation mode, you’ll even notice bits of junk inside. I think the owner of this Civic is a student.

Even a simple sight like a man washing his Volkswagen Beetle can inspire awe when you see it painstakingly designed on a 1:24 scale. You can’t help but smile.

Sports car dioramas were also popular, with some builders choosing to recreate classic scenes from racing history – like this full grid scene with the Porsche 917LH and Matra.

It was especially cool to see people apply techniques from building military dioramas to motorsports scenes, like this mini World Rally Championship splashing across a river.

And how about that incredible sight of a Lancia Stratos tearing up gravel during the 1975 African Safari Rally. From the dirt piling up on the windshield to the massive cloud of dust in the rear, it was one of the most impressive miniature recreations of all time. I saw

Be the exposed model. I also found this vision of what might have happened if Doc Brown had decided to build his time machine out of a Lamborghini Countach instead of a DeLorean DMC-12.

Again, one of the coolest things about car design is how you can do things that would be difficult, or maybe even impossible, to do in real life. The Lotus Elan hit a bunch of SSR Star Sharks, for example.

Or how about this? This is a 1:18 scale Subaru R2 from the 1970s built on the Impreza STI which is a runway rally car.

The fenders and custom fuel setup were designed as a CAD model before being manufactured using a 3D printer. A nice tip of what the future might hold for custom model building.

Another great design was the fun, nostalgic Celica. Of course, the body flipped over to reveal a fully detailed powertrain from the nitro V8.

This 1:12 scale Tamiya Porsche 935 Turbo is insanely detailed and even features recessed body panels to expose the amazing craftsmanship inside.

Just as I know I’ll never be able to hit a baseball off an MLB field or swing an NBA hoop, I know I’ll never be able to design like this. It’s not realistic.

They also had a strong presence at the show, the most impressive being these huge models with built-in sound effects, LED lights, fully designed interiors and more.
