What your child can do on his own depends on his age. My son (age 4) was able to follow the template. I did all the cutting. My son did all the painting. I drew the directions for the Spiderman mask, but he was able to continue with the puffy paint. I helped when he wanted help. I drew the guidelines for the Hulk’s hair, and we worked together on the inflatable painting. I drew the Hulk’s mouth, but he was able to glue all the necessary parts. He also made holes, but I attached the elastic cord.

In this Instructable you will learn the basic techniques of taking a Batman or Batgirl Cowl and bring them to real life for sculpting and making a latex mask.

I know from experience that some materials are particularly hard to find in some parts of the world, so I generally made this with fairly simple materials.

Basic Sculpting Tools – I only used 5 all together for this build because they are particularly easy to use.

Heat Gun – These can be had at almost any hardware store for as little as $12, but keep in mind if you can get one cheap

One,  make sure it has a warranty, if it breaks you can easily exchange it without any hassle.

Box Cutter Knife – I have personally used this knife to cut sculpting material and take large pieces of sculpting.

Cooking Spray – This is used to soften the carving material, it’s great as it prevents the material from sticking to your handle.

If you’re doing the big finishing touches today.

Plasticine or clay sculpture – I would personally recommend using plasticine, it doesn’t shrink compared to most clays; is one

A very solid material that resists heat or movement, and doesn’t require constant re-hydration for sculptures.

Plaster of Paris – Regular plaster of paris can be had cheaply in 20kg bags for about $12 at most hardware stores.

Worth it, I used a thin plaster of paris which unfortunately doesn’t set quickly, but I did it.

Solid piece of wood – This is used for the base of the sculpture and is very important when it’s time to cast it later.

The best way to get a digital image from a game is to find someone who can get you a 3D rendering of the image from the original file.

If you can’t get a 3D render, the next best thing is to make a wall of images with good details from the game or movie, because when you make your sculpt, I put these on top where it’s easy to look at. in Reference your work.

The first thing you want to do is grab a styrofoam head. With a plaster of paris, you may need to raise the head a bit to match your head.

Take your styrofoam cap, which you will mount roughly in the middle of your board, with duct tape.

The last step before you start sculpting is to place a plaster where the shoulders and trapezius fit according to your build. (Note: This is not something you need to be perfect, it’s just to save some play dough if you’re not building that much.

Now you can start sculpting, I recommend doing as I did by drawing the lines where the dome around the mouth is open.

When starting with sculpting material, you’ll want to apply it to areas no larger than an inch in diameter and 8mm thick. You used to cut a small piece of plaster, roll it smooth and then apply it to the mannequin head.

Applying it in small smoothed balls is then to smooth the specific and make it easier to handle, it’s a bit boring, but
