Have a great Thanksgiving week! I’ll be sharing lots of deals and ideas here throughout the week leading up to Black Friday, but first I wanted to put together a quick tutorial on each popular request. This year, with the Nori thing slowly but surely taking over our entire apartment, we opted for smaller, thinner Christmas trees that are perfect for the city. As for the decor, I decided to go glam on the top with green velvet bows and pearl jewelry, and kid-friendly on the bottom with unicorns and llamas (which he likes it now!). I ran out of velvet yarn so I sprinkled it with some buffalo paint and I love the mix. For those who like video tutorials, check out the IG Reel tutorial.

There seems to be no shortage of things to buy or collect to put on your tree.

They add a lot of color, and shine beauty, fill the gaps, and, most importantly, give you creative control and continuity. ✨

All you need is a roll (or two or three!) of pretty edged ribbon, scissors and some craft floral wire. I found my ribbon at Joann Fabrics.

It is very easy to make your own bow from wire mesh yarn. This is a great budget-friendly way to spruce up your holiday decor.

After you have your equipment, the first step is to determine the length of thread you need by laying out the thread and making a mock-up to get an idea.

Play around with the yarn to find the right height for your bow and the length of the tail.

You can make it as small or as big as you want; Remember, this Christmas tree is your own handiwork.

Next, cut a short length of flower wire to tie the end of the bow. I cut mine to 7 inches, and that was enough. Prepare the wiring for the next step.

When you’re ready, fold your paint into a W shape, but put three dots in the middle instead of one. See the picture below for more help.

Now, fold and gently fold the bottom four points. Wrap and store tightly in a bundle. Wrap the floral wire tightly around the “seed” of the bow.

Remove the two tails from each end and straighten them. Then, adjust and adjust the three petals of your line.

To finish the bow tail, cut a chevron “V” shape on each end. To make it nice and symmetrical, cut one end at a time.

With the right side, fold the tail end in half and pin the corners diagonally. Leave and adjust the cable ties as desired.

You’ve finished your first bow! It gets easier and faster the more you do it. I promise!

1. Cut 5 to 6 pieces of yarn about 2 1/2 meters long. This may be an approximation. Sometimes I cut two of the 5-6 ribbons longer for a longer tail. This gives the bow more dimension. Cut the end of the bow at an angle or V to make it more visible.

2. Fold the yarn in half and pin it in the middle or lift the loop if you want a longer tail on some of the bows.

3.  Place the folded strips on top and just line them up while holding them with your thumbs and fingers. Wrap the floral wire around the pierced area and twist tightly to hold the thread in place.

4. Spread the loop and pour the loop. If you have a long tail, it will cover your tree. I prefer to combine the long and short tails so that the trees are not too close to each other.

5. Arrange Christmas bows on your tree in a diamond pattern. I started with a bow in the middle and one at the bottom. Then I put a cross on the right and left to form a diamond. I circled the tree until the diamond shape was complete.

This is my finished tree. I used the thick center bow as a reference point for this photo.

Place one in the middle, bottom, left to right to create a diamond shape. I also have one on top of the tippy and on the left and right.

Now that I’ve shown you how to make bows for a Christmas tree, let’s talk about storage. I like to take my bow from the wood and make a loop. I also tried to sort the ribbon tails as much as possible. I put all the pins in a plastic bag and tied the ends. I usually keep my bows in the attic to keep the dust away. For the next Christmas season I pulled it out, clipped the tail and changed the loop.

If you’re still feeling overwhelmed with bows, I’ll also have a bow making video on my Facebook Page at 10:00am CST for you to watch.
