What are Kentucky Wildcats? The Kentucky Wildcats are the name of the University of Kentucky’s intercollegiate athletic program. The program consists of 19 men’s and women’s teams that compete in a variety of sports as Division I members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. 1973 – 1988
The original ’73 logo features the state of Kentucky in blue. The head of a lynx-like wild cat was placed in its center. It has aggressive, harmful properties.
Another logo features the letters “U” and “K” (“University of Kentucky”) superimposed in serif block letters. It was dark blue with a black outline, and the “U” was just above and to the left of the “K”. The final touch was a picture of a feral cat with orange fur ready to catch the letters.
In most cases, these are two letters, as in the previous logo. However, the wildcat has disappeared, the letters have spread much wider, and the color scheme has also changed. The blue has reverted to a pale shade and has been replaced by a combination of white and blue outside the outline.

The Kentucky Wildcats are the intercollegiate athletic teams of the University of Kentucky. The varsity’s female athletes and women’s teams were known as the “Lady Cats” for most of the club’s history, until the Wildcats name was adopted by athletes of both sexes in the mid-1990s.
The nickname “Wildcats” was given to the club after a 1909 football road victory over Illinois. Kentucky’s first truly memorable logo appeared in 1973. The emblem, which looks really aggressive, features a wild cat with its mouth open. In the background, an outline of the state of Kentucky is placed. Only blue and white.
Compared to the original emblem, the 1989 emblem looked less realistic. Behind the initials “U” and “K” is a cartoon feral cat with very sharp claws extended forward. The club received so many complaints from people who said the cat’s tongue looked more phallic than a tongue that they eventually had to change the cross. Not only the language, but the entire color scheme has changed.
Today, the main logo of the club is a combination of two letters “U” and “K” (University of Kentucky). It was first used in 1997 as an alternative to the main coat of arms. In 2016, there was a slight change in the color scheme, as well as a modification of the shape of the letters.

Both the wordmark and the Kentucky Wildcats two-letter logo feature almost the same traditional serif look. Compared to the wordmark, the logo has slightly wider versions of the letters “U” and “K”.
Kentucky’s current logo combines the university’s two official colors, Kentucky blue and white. Kentucky blue is a deep shade of dark blue. Earlier logos also played with the combination of blue and white, but the shades were slightly different.
The Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team is the winningest program in college basketball history. In 2009, it was the first division team to reach two thousand wins. They have also competed in eight NCAA Division I men’s basketball championships, trailing only one team in that count, UCLA. The Wildcats also rank first among all NCAA schools in all-time winning percentage.
UK’s football program traces its roots back to the 1890s, when the team began competing against other colleges in the area.

The Wildcats play in the East Division of the NCAA FBS and Southeastern Conference. Since 1973, their home arena has been Kroger Field (formerly Commonwealth Stadium). Mark Stoops is the head coach.
The varsity baseball program has not been successful thus far. From 1997 to 2004, they had just one winning season. However, they had a very successful season in 2006, winning the regular season conference title for the first time in three decades. Their best season might come in 2012.
