Joseph Coat Craft – We have brought a new environment into our home with this emotional art. My kids are familiar with the feelings in our ABC Felt Animals series, but I don’t give them enough of their own feelings to create as they wish. This week, with just a little paper, glue, and felt, Joseph created this awesome Technicolor Dreamcoat!

This week we read the wonderful story of Joseph. God rescued him from so many hardships and used him to save his family, who abandoned him and sold him into slavery!
The Life Of Joseph Activity Book: Kids Ages 6 12
This week I invited the children to create a colorful coat for Joseph. I cut a thick potato coat for each of the children – they got to choose a color – pink for May and purple for John. Then I gave them little pieces and colored felt to stick on! A great simple activity that provides fine motor skills while squeezing and applying glue.
He absolutely loved the project and worked on it for a while. I had to remember to glue the sentiment down or it wouldn’t stick 🙂 John had no interest in the project – I asked him several times to get involved, but he wouldn’t. I still have the coat and hope he decides.
All we can do is let them create – for John, this often means creating and re-creating adventures with his imagination. So when we read and project a Bible story, we find that we need to create the story completely. (At least three or more times….)
Teach your child how God remembered and saved Joseph even when he was alone and abandoned in Egypt! God hears our cries and answers us! What an important lesson for children – life is not perfect, but God hears and promises to never leave us or forsake us.
Joseph’s Coat — One Stone Biblical Resources

I’m finishing up my last chapter for my PreK Sunday School bundle and it feels like this. Therefore. Good! I’m so excited to finish this project on Joseph!
One of the crafts we do with this unit is making our own colored coats. So of course I had to try it with my kids first! Here we have made our paper bag Joseph coat!
Step 1: Cut! Cut a large hole in the bottom of a large paper bag. There is a hole for the head, so your baby’s head should be big enough. If your baby has a big head like mine…keep cutting! 🙂
Then cut armholes in the sides (about 5 inches in diameter). Of course, cut them with a hole in the bottom of the bag.
Weekly Lesson Plan
Finally, cut the strips of construction paper into 1-2″ strips. If you have regular construction paper, you will need to make horizontal strips as shown in my pictures. If the construction paper is longer, you can make vertical strips. By size!
Step 2: Join the strips together using a glue stick by adding strips horizontally or vertically one by one (however your strip size works for you)!
Step 3: Isn’t she just a beautiful model in a dress? Okay, maybe I’m biased, but Cooper loves his colorful coat and now he loves to play!
Find a dedicated Bible chapter about Joseph and forgiveness and 2 years of Sunday school here. When we did the letter J last week, our Bible numbers were Ahunus and Joseph. We had foam craft for Ahunus, so I wracked my brain to make something for Joseph. I thought about cutting a flat coat out of construction paper, but it would have to be larger than regular paper. Then one afternoon when Sweet P and Baby Brother were napping at the same time, I got the idea to use a paper bag! I must say it was amazing!

I used a Trader Joe’s bag, cut it into a “coat” shape (looks like a vest) and tucked it in so the words on the bag wouldn’t show. I had to tape the pieces together, but it worked.
Then, let your child out on the town in a coat. For the glue we used glue stick and modpodge. He finally told her that he needed Easter stickers, but most of them fell off.
He did this and we talked about how Joseph’s father gave him this coat because he loved him so much.

Joseph Had A Little Overcoat Collage
This summer we are looking at the story of Joseph from the book of Genesis. Our first meeting told part of the story of Joseph’s brothers being jealous of him and selling him to some slave traders in Egypt. We wanted an art piece that emphasized Joseph’s changing circumstances, talking about God’s presence in the bad times and the good times. Kyle came up with something amazing!
Cut the coat pattern. We used regular backing plastic (contact paper), but cardstock will work just as well.
Fold the joseph so that the two halves overlap. Glue the two halves to the inside of the lollipop shape with duct tape.
Paint half of the coat pattern with a lot of color and make the other half brown. Pull the cloth and slide Joseph’s head through the neck hole. Shape the edges of the fabric so it doesn’t look out of shape.

Using the puppet, talk about this part of the story and how God is with us when we are sad, lonely, and happy. If you’ve been following along through the Monday Bible series, don’t despair! I know that the story of Joseph does not fit in the middle of the creation story. We’ll pick up that series on Monday.
