Jonah And The Whale Craft Ideas – The biblical story of Jonah and the big fish (also known as Jonah and the whale) is a common story. Paint the sheet of paper with gray paint. Add the dark blue paint and mix the colors so that the paper sheet is a mixture of gray and dark blue. Allow the paper sheet to dry completely.

Attach the triangle to the back of the paper plate with glue. This is the tail. The apex of the triangle should be attached to the back of the plate so that the larger edge of the triangle is farthest from the paper plate.

Draw Jónas on the white paper. It should not be bigger than the big fish’s mouth. Hopefully you or your child is much more artistic than I am. A stickman is as good as I can come up with.

Meanwhile, cut out a rectangle from the paper. It should be wide enough for the craft stick to fit through.

Glue the rectangle to the back of the large fish close to the cutout for the mouth. Make sure to stick only the top and bottom edges of the rectangle tape. Allow the glue to dry completely.

Place the wooden craft stick on the rectangle. The big fish can now swallow Jonah and spit him out on dry land!

I’ve tried a few different activities to help your little ones learn the story of Jonah from the Bible and practice some skills at the same time.

The Jonah and My Whale coloring page is also included in this printable pack. Children can draw some details, such as sea creatures and seaweed, and then color the rest of the picture.

Some activities are more for preschoolers, such as pre-writing tracing practice, counting practice, and letter tracing practice.

Some other activities are more for older children, such as the story page. I like to do these pages together as a class so we can go over the order of events in the story.

They just need to cut out the pictures from one side and arrange them together on the other side. After we figure out the order together, they paste them on the blank page.

Place this book of Jonah with other books about whales in a book basket. You can also check them out at your local library. This is a traditional retelling of the classic biblical story.

One day God asked Jonah to go to the city of Nineveh and tell the people of Nineveh to stop being wicked. Jona didn’t want to leave. He thought it was a dangerous mission. So Jonah fled to the sea and boarded a ship bound for another city.

Then there was a big wind and a strong storm. Jonah knew the storm would happen because he was running from what God asked him to do.

He then told those in the boat that if they were thrown into the sea, God would stop the storm. They threw it in and it stopped. They were so grateful that they stopped and thanked God.

Then the captain and crew looked into the water and saw that Jonah had been swallowed into the whale’s mouth, all the way into the whale’s stomach. God actually sent the whale to take a big gulp from Jonah so he wouldn’t drown.

Jonah stayed in the dark belly of the whale for three days and three nights. While in the belly of the fish, he thanked God for saving him from drowning and apologized for not going to Nineveh as he had been told.

Finally, after the third day, God spat Jonah out onto the dry land and God told him to go to Nineveh. He obeyed. The kids LOVE whales. They are simply fascinated. Have them discover what these interesting animals are up to with these super easy whale crafts for preschoolers.
