How To Make Your Own Grinch Costume – Hey everyone! Carly is here! This weekend Jeanine is filming our super awesome Whoville!!! If you have any costume ideas, this week I’ve been busy with Whomama, getting costumes for Whoville for Janine’s son James and my son Dylan. !! If you’re stuck for something to wear for yourself or your kids…and need some “laugh inspiration” 😉…then here are some easy costume projects inspired by the Grinch himself!
First I sewed James’ shirt. Originally I was going to use my shader and design and iron on the vinyl, but I decided to do it by hand.
How To Make Your Own Grinch Costume
Step 2: Draw your design in chalk. For this shirt, we decided to increase the heart by 2 sizes.

Step 3: Use crayons to make hearts. I used ones with skinny tips for better control.
Step 5: You will need to apply several coats of the red heart, as the color of the dress needs to be darker to stand out. I did 5 classes. I also added some red glitter after the final coat of paint.
Step 6: Take a dry towel and absorb the powder. I wiped the baby down to a few points. You don’t want the paint streaks to smudge even after they dry, so make sure you do this carefully, dab lightly and don’t dab too hard.
The second shirt I made is a literal interpretation of the Grinch. I am dressing my daughter up as little Cindy Lou Wu. My mom (who knows more about sewing machines than I do) used to make her wear a pink nightgown. I have to come up with something to turn my son into the Grinch!

Step 1: Measure 2 times and cut 1 time. I want to make the sleeve and the bottom. I doubt my 3 year old will tolerate the volume of hair and decided not to get it done on my neck so I wouldn’t blame him. I glued the front, stapled, and let dry. Then when it was dry, I made the back of the dress and pinned both the back and the front.

EVERYONE wants to take a picture with us this Halloween! My husband is known as the original “Grinch”! Every Christmas, he wears a red Grinch shirt and a felt green Grinch hat. It was an obvious choice for us to be this year’s Grinch and Cindy Lou Kim! Wherever we went, my Grinch strutted his stuff and paraded around the room entertaining the audience with his Grinch-like antics! The Grinch really likes his voice too!
I work in the mortgage department of a bank and some of us dress up in Halloween costumes. I love sewing and wish I had more time to do it. I was born with only one left hand and I am grateful to my parents who encouraged me in my youth. I really enjoyed making these costumes and we had a great Halloween weekend!
We won first place at our local Eagles club with over a hundred kits! We were even asked to come home as the Grinch and Cindy Lou Waugh on December 21st.
