Today I have a really cute and super easy paper project to share with you, DIY Origami Bow Ties. It has been five years since I made my first origami bow and my love for beautiful paper bows is still going strong. No gift is complete without one!

How To Make Easy Origami Bow Ties. — Gathering Beauty

These simple bows are much easier to make than my previous ones. For starters, there is no shearing and much fewer circles. The trickiest part is opening them at the end, so if you’re making them with younger kids, they might need a little help with the last few steps.

The great thing about them is how versatile they are. You can use them as card decorations and gifts for both boys and girls. How about making origami shirt bags for Father’s Day and adding origami bow ties to them?

Turn them into hair clips or brooches. Glue them to some ribbon and use as a delicate paper bow tie or headband. String them as garland for inexpensive party decorations or stick minis on cocktail sticks to decorate cupcakes. There are so many clever ways you can use them.

This gorgeous origami paper is from Djeco and unfortunately it is no longer available, but you can get this beautiful pastel origami paper instead.

But keep your eyes open when you’re gone. You can often find Djeco in independent shops and I’ve even picked up a few in garden centres, so it’s always a good idea to keep an eye out.

Use gift wrap or old magazines and customize them to match the theme of the wrap or party. Old coloring books are another good alternative.

1. Take a 6 x 6 square of origami paper and cut it in half. This means that you can make 2 bows from each piece of paper.

8. Take the left side and fold it diagonally. You want to line up the center fold with the fold you see on the front of the right side (shown above).

15. Carefully open your origami. As you open it, simultaneously press down on the center of the sheet. So when it comes to Father’s Day, I don’t buy much for my husband. He and I usually get one gift together for Mother’s/Father’s Day, and we like to help the kids make things for the day. One year he made me a video where every kid talked about why they loved me, which was absolutely amazing. This year I already helped my daughter fill out the survey of everything about my dad, which was really cute. This week we also figured out how to make origami bow ties.

They turned out so cute! My kids colored the paper, then I folded the bow ties and glued them to a piece of ribbon for my husband to wear (we pinned the ribbon securely to the back of his neck, under the collar of his shirt). My son even made a daddy and we put:

What’s really fun about the bow ties is that they are a Father’s Day gift that kids of any age can make: even very young children can scribble on the paper you fold, while older kids can color the paper and learn how to fold the Bow. . .

Your child can even write on the back of the paper and then fold it and pass it as a card if you don’t want to carry it.

Put A Bow On It! 10 Ways To Use Felt Bows

Today I’m sharing one of my favorite quick and easy ways to liven up a gift, a printable paper sheet template.

While I’ve made a few different paper bows on the blog (find my origami bows here and my origami bow ties here), these are by far the easiest. In a few minutes you will have an expensive bow for a gift, card or gift bag.

As a paper craftsman, I always like to add a touch of handmade to a gift bag or box. These origami bows have been a favorite of mine for a while, but as much as I love them, they can be a little tricky if you’re short on time.

This pattern means it couldn’t be easier to make a bow in minutes. All you have to do is cut out three parts of the sheet, glue the two outer tabs in the middle and glue them to the back of the ribbon.

I’ve left the pattern blank so you can print it on scrapbook paper like I have, or plain light cardstock and use as a pattern.

My favorite paper for this type of paper project is scrapbook paper because it’s more of a lightweight cardstock than paper. Scrapbook.com has a fantastic range, but I’m particularly partial to anything from American Crafts, especially Paige Evans – Magnificent Collection and Maggie Holmes – Round Trip Collection.

Once the pieces are printed and cut, you can attach them with mini glue dots, hot glue, or double-sided tape (my personal favorite).

3. You will need three pieces for each bow (there are two of each on the pattern). Take the piece that looks like glasses and lay it flat.

If you’re using double-sided paper like I am, make sure to put it face down.

4. To make the top of the bow, fold both side tabs into the center and secure with strong double-sided tape or small glue dots.

Make sure you use strong double-sided tape or hot glue. I did a test with the glue stick and they all came off after a few hours.

5. Assemble your bow by taking the top piece you just made and attaching it to the base (the fish piece ends) using double sided tape.

6. Take the last piece (the small rectangle) and wrap it around the center of both parts of your bow.

These bows can be used all year round, so be sure to hang them on the template for future use. Stick them on a prosecco bottle for your birthday, hang them on the tree for Christmas or string them as a garland for a party or baby shower.
