How To Make A Bowl Out Of Paper Mache
We should mention that this DIY project takes time, but it’s worth it! It takes about a day to make 1 bowl (maximum 2 days). However, if you make more than one paper bowl per day, they will take the same time to dry and cook. Considering that you have old newspapers and books at home, you need to buy acrylic paint, brushes, white glue, and balloons for this project; They cost about $8 and can be found at any hobby or local craft store.

How to Make a Paper Mache Bowl (Step by Step Instructions) Step 1: Prepare the Paper and Base (Balloon)
To begin, prepare the papers by cutting them into small squares (1.5-2.5 inches). If you can work with small ones (under 1 inch, this is better, but it can take time). Use a thick balloon and blow it up to the size specified for the bowl. Place the balloon on something to maintain its position and stability. We used a small bowl to place the balloon. Be sure to place the flat side (not the knotted side) of the balloon on top.
In a bowl or pot, mix 60:40 white glue and water. Mix them well. Take several pieces of paper and dip them in the glue-water. carefully pick up the piece of paper and place it on the balloon. Use your finger to align the paper with the top of the balloon. Let’s start with the top of the balloon.
Continue to soak the pieces of paper in the glue-water and place them on the balloon. When placing the paper on top of the balloon, keep the size of the bowl in mind. Or you can use a marker to find the size of the bowl on the balloon. The top end of the balloon we are working on now is the bottom end of the bowl. This means that the line you are burying (slightly along the center of the balloon) is the top edge of the bowl.

After a day or 2, the layers of paper should be firm and firm. Lift the balloon and carefully remove the paper mache design. Use sharp scissors to cut a straight line from the top edge of the mache dish pattern.
In addition, prepare thin slices and dip them in glue-water. Wrap the pieces of soaked meat around the top edge of the mache dish. This gives a low finish to the end of the main bowl. Wait for the fabric layers to dry completely before proceeding to the next step.

Once the border of the paper mache dish is completely dry, prepare another layer of acrylic paint. Do not add water to the paint. Apply a coat of white acrylic paint to the inside and outside of the paper mache bowl. White paint is used as a base coat and allowed to dry completely.
Prepare the acrylic paint of your choice. Apply a coat or 2 of prepared acrylic paint. Let the layer dry.
To paint the patterns on the paper mache bowl, prepare a different or darker color of paint. We added some green dots. We also painted inside the paper mache bowl with gold acrylic paint. But the painting part is completely up to you, be creative and paint as you wish.
Is the drawing done? Allow to dry. These bowls may not be waterproof, but they are durable enough for any use. You can use them for dry snacks or store craft supplies like beads, wire, pompoms, jewelry, crayons, small items, etc.
