One of the most common ways books are used in a journal or planner is as a list of books you want to read.

Draw the books in black and white and add titles. As you read and finish the books, you color the book. If a book has no color, you know it’s still on your “to read” list.

Scattering books around your bullet journal serves as a bullet journal theme, beautiful doodles, and fits the nature of the reader. I don’t know about you, but I always have stacks of books in my house.

How To Draw Books To Improve Your Drawing Skills

A while back I sent out a doodle tutorial to my Happy Doodle Club subscribers and when a few of them responded saying how they enjoyed that week’s doodles, I thought I’d do more for everyone here.

Book doodles are very useful for school dividers or decorating college books, but also if you like to have a bullet journal to read a tracker!

The reason I like using my Micron pen for drawings like this is because this brand uses archival ink in their pens, which means they don’t bleed through the paper (so safe to use in bullet journals) and are waterproof!

So if you like to use watercolors to color your image after sketching, these pens won’t smudge!

How To Draw A Book In Perspective Open And Closed

Next, draw a line on the back of the book parallel to the front cover. Add some curved lines along the spine of the book for detail.

At the end, add your title (do whatever you want) and a few lines for the pages of the book.

Draw a series of lines that will eventually become the pillars of a book. Make sure they are different heights for interest and that you will share a row for the spines of the two books.

Draw a line down the middle of the book and create two rectangles from it. Make the top and bottom lines curved so that you get the effect of an open book.

How To Draw A Stack Of Books

Then pull off the front and back covers. This is just a big rectangle placed behind the graphics you’ve already made. I like to darken the edges a bit to make it stand out.

First, decide how many books you would like in your pile and starting from the bottom draw an elongated U on the side of it. Then repeat this for the number of books you need.

Next are the covers and spine. For the top book, you will need three rows. Two come from the U-curve for the spine and one from above for the book cover. Next, draw the remaining spine lines.

The last step is to draw the tips of those spines with a curved line and the tip of the book cover on the folded book.
