To draw an anime or manga style face, start by sketching the basic shape of the head. Draw a circle, then make a vertical guide in the middle. Draw a horizontal line about a third of the way down the circle to mark the level where the eye will turn. Next, draw another horizontal line near the bottom of the circle to mark the position of the nose. Measure the distance between the eye line and the nose line, then measure the same distance down the nose line and draw a third horizontal line for the chin. Next, sketch the jaw. The chin line should extend from the widest part of the circle to the middle of the line made for the chin on each side. If you are portraying a child or a woman, make the jawline curved and your chin pointed. For mature male characters, create a more angular chin and a wider chin. Finally, draw a line down either side of the chin to show the height. If you have the following face shape, start adding facial features. First, sketch the ear between the eye line and the nose. Next, draw the tip of the nose where the vertical guide line and the nose line intersect. Since anime and manga characters often have small noses, you don’t need to do much more than draw a small curved line to show the nose line. Next, sketch the eye just below your first horizontal guideline. Depending on how you want the character’s eyes to look, you can show the upper part of the eye with either a simple straight line or a thick, curved lash line. For the eyes below the upper line, draw a lower line just above the level of the tip of the nose. Draw a half circle under the upper lash line to represent the iris, then add a pupil and some highlights to make the eyes look bright and shiny. Draw an arched line above each eye, above the eye line, to represent the eyebrows. For the mouth, add a curved horizontal line between the nose and chin. If you want, you can add a little line underneath to show the bottom lip. Once you’re happy with the face, erase the guidelines and fill in details such as hair and any distinctive features you want the character to have, such as freckles or wrinkles. Fill in your pencil lines with ink and add shading or color to complete your drawing. Have you ever wondered how to draw anime and manga? As an anime fan and manga reader, you must be interested in making your own thing. It’s amazing how a pencil can do so many wonders – all you need is experience and inspiration. To help you get started, I’ve listed the basic steps you need to take to draw your first anime or manga. I hope it will be useful to you.

Drawing anime characters is fun and seemingly difficult, but the interesting thing is that all your favorite characters (from simple to very complex) can be drawn using circles, squares, triangles, etc. is born from basic forms such as

Start by improving your core image. Practice simple shapes like straight lines, circles, rectangles, ovals and other similar shapes. It sounds boring (it really is), but everyone who paints starts at this “baby” stage, so why should it be any different for you? To build a complex structure, one must first master simplicity. This will help improve your image and creative vision.

Try to draw these basic shapes for a few minutes every day. Then, draw the one that fits your imagination. You can try combining these basic shapes to create real-life figures; for example, you can use squares or rectangles of different sizes to build basic human anatomy. One such example is given in step 3 below.

Perspective means that things look smaller when viewed from a distance. Perspective drawing is a method of enhancing a 2D object to give it a three-dimensional appearance. A great example is the cube as shown above. Although all sides are the same, it looks smaller from a distance. All cubes appear as 3D objects.

Perspective images can be one-point, two-point and multi-point. The cube shown here is an example of a two-point perspective drawing. An example of one-point perspective is looking straight down the street—the view you see is one-point. Examples of third-point or multi-point perspective include complex objects such as buildings, vehicles, or symbols.

You should start with a cube shape, then try other shapes like cube, cube, sphere, then cabinet, bed, etc. you have to barge in a complex structure like Third-point (or multi-point) perspective is often compared to a bird’s eye view.

The perspective image is the subject itself. I recommend learning every aspect of this technique before proceeding. It takes time and effort, but it’s very rewarding.

In anime and manga, the characters actually seem true, if not perfect imitations of real-life people. However, giving them the right physique adds to their personality, and when you convey a character’s thoughts and emotions through their physical features, the audience can relate to them more.

The good thing is that learning basic anatomy is not that difficult. You’ve mastered steps 1 and 2—now all you have to do is combine the two steps and perform the anatomy. Before that, make sure you know the proportions and placement of different body parts. In other words, first know the rules (basic anatomy) and try to form your own unique character before you intend to break them.

Shading is important – it gives your image an authentic look. It enhances two-dimensional objects and creates a sense of three-dimensionality. To perfect your shading skills, first look at how objects of different sizes and surfaces reflect light. The basic rule remains the same for everyone – that is, the side of the object towards the light source is the lightest, and the side away from the source is the darkest.

Proper shading not only improves perspective, but also reflects the environment, time of day, and weather. Consider the example of a character standing on the street on a sunny day. As you can imagine, the shadows of the characters are quite sharp, with a clear contrast between light and shadow areas.
