To draw a character in a cartoon style, start by sketching the basic shape of the head. You can make any head you want, but it’s easiest to start with a circle or square with rounded corners. Next, fill in the basic body shape. For example, create a large oval or a pair of overlapping circles for the body, and use circles or ovals to show hands, feet, and joints. Connect the shapes with straight or curved lines to create the arms and neck, and fill in details like the character’s fingers and body outline. Next, add guidelines to help you know where to sketch parts of the face. For example, draw a vertical line down the center of the face, then add a horizontal line down the middle to show where the eyes go. Draw two horizontal lines below to mark where the nose and mouth are. Draw a pair of circles for the eyes, a side curve or c-shape for the nose, and a slightly curved horizontal line for the mouth. Now, it’s time to get creative. Write in any details you want, such as hair, eyebrows, clothes, and any other special features or accessories you want to add. When you’re done, ink the outline, then erase the guidelines and other pencil marks. If you want, you can draw colors.
