How To Draw Anime Head – For my first tutorial on how to draw anime characters, I will be teaching you how to properly sketch and draw the head of each anime character.
Before we get started with our how to draw anime character tutorial, there are a few things to remember first. Many people start drawing anime without any context. Sometimes people think that painting shows that you are not good. Conversely, using pointers will make you a better performer. So for this tutorial, think about the anime character you want to make. Once you have settled on the characters, get an image of their head from the front, 3/4 and from the side. Then when you take pictures, make sure you always look at these pictures. For the purpose of this tutorial, I used Deku and Uraraka from the anime Boku no Hero Academia.

Another idea in this how to draw anime character tutorial is linework. One of the hallmarks of anime and manga is pure line work and mark making. This is not a tutorial for that. With this said, you can still work on the quality of your line through this tutorial.
Anime Drawing Tutorials For Beginners Step By Step
First of all we have to create a system. If you are a beginner it is important that you use a guide while drawing. No, using instructions doesn’t make you an artist. In fact, you’ll find that it will help you improve faster.
Unlike most guides, we’re not going to start with circles. Instead, lay out a rectangle (about 3 by 4) like in the picture below. Once we have our rectangle, we will divide it into four equal parts. We follow this and use a line that divides the quadrilaterals exactly in the middle. Now we should have a square divided into a total of 8 rectangles in a 2×4 (column x row) format.
After setting the straight line and bisecting the body, draw a circle/ellipse to represent the skull. To do this, let’s put the head in the middle of the box from which the first three rows were made. From here, draw a straight line on the X axis that passes through the center and connects the left and right sides of the box. Do the same for the y-axis and add the upper and lower limits.
With this we have 4 points dividing our box into four parts. From here, let’s connect each point with a curved line until we end up with our ellipse.

Now that we have the ellipse, how do we color it? For this, we first need to split vertically along the bottommost line of our main rectangle. Then we’ll draw a diagonal line starting from each of the left and right sides of the circle we made earlier. These diagonal lines should move inward until they reach the line we made earlier to split the bottom line of the main rectangle. From these points, we will again draw a diagonal line pointing inward and meeting below the base of the rectangle at the point where the horizontal line was drawn in Step 1.
So we did our paint and paint. This is good! Let’s now discuss where our character’s gaze is. To do this, let’s go to the horizontal line that divides our main rectangle in half. The line itself is divided into two parts but we will divide it even further. Specifically, we need to split the line into 8 parts. Between these six parts (which we can condense down to only 3) goes to determine our distance. The left eye will go under the leftmost corner while the right eye will go under the rightmost corner. As far as the nose is concerned, it will be below the middle part.
Eyelash extensions on the other hand will depend on the style of the artist. In Hirokoshi’s case, it is slightly higher than the horizontal line. However, other artists will prefer to stick to the eyebrow line.
Ears are relatively easy to maintain. The top part of the ear will match the horizontal line of our main rectangle. The lower part of the ear and nose will correspond to the upper boundary of the fourth division (bottom) (or the bottom of the third). In the case of hair, you only need to see the bottom part of the first part (the top part of the second part). Note that although the hairs are like eyebrows. Depending on the artist, those may be slightly higher (or lower) limits.
How To Draw An Anime Face (female)
With these instructions, you should have pretty much everything you need to draw the anime character of your choice. For Deku/Izuku, the actual word you’ll see is hair. I have to say that drawing anime hair is definitely more complicated than drawing facial expressions. So I will discuss it in another lesson.
Uraraka is easier to make than Deku. This is thanks to the simple arrangement of his hair. In terms of his facial features, it resembles Deku. See his face is round. That’s how language works in anime. Girls tend to have rounder and curvier features. For boys, their designs would be angular which shows strength or masculinity.
