Goals that are well defined, detailed and clear have a much better chance of being achieved. To make the goal specific, try to connect with the five “W” questions:
Example of a specific goal: I want to lose 14 pounds in the next three months by eating only clean foods and working out at the gym five days a week. I will feel much better if I lose weight.
The goal must be measurable so you can measure your progress and determine if you are on the right track. You should be able to tell when you have reached your goal.

The goal should be challenging and require work, not too easy. It should be possible to achieve this with some effort on your part. Ideally, your goal should require you to stretch a little outside your comfort zone.
Consider your available time, skills and finances, and whether you can achieve the goal with reasonable effort. Don’t set goals that are too difficult or overwhelming. If your goals are too big, break them down into smaller goals or small steps.
Example: I know I can lose 14 pounds because I’ve done it before. I used to work out 5 times a week too, so I know it’s doable.
If that sounds overwhelming, set yourself a goal of losing just 2 pounds. Once you reach that goal, you set another goal.

Example: Since about 1 pound per week is a realistic weight loss, my goal is realistic.
The goal must have a start date and an end date. You also need to have time to do each of the steps you will need to take.
Example: I will start now and reach my goal in 3 months. I exercise five times a week and lose about 1 pound a week for 3 months.
It is important that your aim is positive. You want to focus on what you want to do, not what you don’t want to do. What you focus on magnifies. So when you focus on not doing something, then that will increase as well.

According to a study conducted by Gail Matthews of the University of Dominica, those who wrote down their goals achieved much more than those who did not write down their goals. In another study by psychology professor Dr. Gail Matthews, those who wrote down their goals and actions had a 33% higher success rate than those who didn’t.
In the book “Goals” by Brian Tracy, the author describes a Harvard University study conducted in 1979. In the study, researchers asked recent Harvard MBA students if they had set any specific goals they wanted to achieve in the future . Only 13% of graduates set clear goals, and only 3% wrote down their goals. 84% of graduates had no goals. The researchers followed up the graduates 10 years later. Graduates who set goals earned twice as much as those who did not (on average). And those high school graduates who wrote those goals earned 10 times more (on average)!
In order to achieve your goals, you need to know what they are and you need to write them down clearly, but how do you even reach your goals?
Sit in a quiet place and give the process time. Think about all your dreams. Include all aspects such as your career, personal development, health, wellness, fitness, family, relationships, financial situation, etc.

Reflect and create goals in all areas of your life to ensure your life is balanced. If you don’t consider all areas, you may find that you have achieved your goals, but you are still unsatisfied. For example, if your goal is to succeed at work, but you invest all your time in work and neglect your family or your health, then even when you achieve your goals, you won’t feel satisfied. You will not feel happy and satisfied. So make sure your goals are balanced so that your life is balanced.
Think about why you want to achieve each goal. What benefit will it bring you? You need to be sure that the goal will benefit you or someone you love to make sure it will be worth your time and effort. If the goal is not useful to you, remove it from the list.

SMART goal setting allows you to set aside time to think and make sure your goals are what you really want to achieve.
Setting goals and achieving them will allow you to live the life you want. However, you need to know where you want to end up before making a plan of action. Most people do not reach their potential. They are frustrated by the lack of progress in their career, personal life or relationships. For some reason, I can’t seem to live my dream life. Why do some people achieve incredible achievements and others remain stuck throughout their lives? The reason most people don’t reach their potential is because they don’t believe they can and haven’t taken the time to decide exactly what they want and how to get it. In fact, most people don’t even know how to set goals properly and have never really set defined goals.
