Gibson Les Paul Tattoo – Stringed instruments have been around for centuries, but the history of the modern guitar begins with one and only one person. And that man is Orville Gibson. Gibson was born in 1856 in Shatoga, New York, and by 1894 had built a workshop in Kalamazoo, Michigan that gave birth to the modern guitar. Gibson patented an instrument that had a model similar to a violin and was made from bent strips of wood. Gibson guitars played much louder and were more durable than other mandolins, which led to the founding of the Gibson Guitar Company in 1902. Musicians flocked to the Gibson design, and to this day many top musicians continue to support the company, such as Slash (Guns N Roses), Ace Frehley (Kiss), Randy Rhodes (Ozzy Osbourne) and, of course, Les Paul.
1931 The electric guitar changed the course of the guitar forever. The first electric guitar to be commercially produced and sold was made by George Beauchamp and Paul Barth of the National Guitar Corporation. Within a decade, most guitar companies, including Gibson, began selling electric guitars, and by 1940 Les Paul had designed and built the first solid-body electric guitar called “The Log”.

Over time, guitars have become accessories that emphasize the individuality of the musician, giving way to some very bright instruments. For example, in the movie Purple Rain, Prince played a custom guitar called “The Cloud”, which was highly associated with his icon. Then there’s Lonnie Mack’s Gibson Flying V, which Native American Mac liked because it sounded like an arrow. And don’t forget Jimmy Page’s Gibson EDS-1275 double neck, which he played all his time with Led Zeppelin.
