Gastonia Police Department Accident Reports – Gastonia, N.C. – July 15, 2022: The Gastonia Police Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Gayle Mahl as the Department’s first Home Police Officer. The Homeless Coordinator provides support to individuals and families who are at immediate risk of homelessness. This position is a liaison for the Police Department to organize and strengthen the relationship between agencies and organizations that deal with homeless issues and / or provide direct services to the community.

Gayle Mahl has worked in the field of health care for over 40 years. She graduated from college with her B.A. in human services from the State University of New York at Utica/Rome. She moved from New York to North Carolina in 1991. Mrs. Mahl lives in Mt. Holly with her husband and grandson.

The first position of Mrs. Mahl of Gaston County works with the Gaston/Lincoln Area Authority (also known as Partners Behavioral Health Care) as a critical case manager for individuals with developmental and mental health issues, especially those discharged from Broughton Hospital. During his time there, he also held positions such as Director of Developmental Disabilities Services, Director of Special Projects, Oversight of the Crisis/Detox unit, and mobile crisis. When he retired from the state system, he worked at the Phoenix Counseling Center, a company specializing in services to people with mental health problems and / or addiction.

Speaking to members of the community who are experiencing the needs of homelessness during the onset of the COVID pandemic, Mrs. Mahl is working with the City of Gastonia and the CoC planning team to reopen the PCOC to provide individuals and families with the ability to shower, do their laundry. , get tested for COVID and get Kintegra for follow-up and guidance. He was part of the team that developed the Critical Time Intervention Program, a service that helps people experiencing homelessness and mental health and addiction issues.

Mrs. Mahl is the team leader for Gaston County’s Point in Time Count. The Point-In-Time Count helps our social services design services and programs that respond directly to local needs, measure progress in reducing homelessness, and identify strengths and including gaps in the current homelessness assistance system. A Point-In-Time count is a nightly random count of people in a community experiencing homelessness relative to the sheltered and unsheltered populations. This event is done through community volunteers, law enforcement, agencies that serve the homeless, and our community.

Gastonia Man Charged With Murder After 6 Week Old Adopted Son Dies In Hospital, Police Say

Gastonia Police say they found the car of the man in connection with the kidnapping charge at a home in the 400 block of North Edgemont Avenue. The children were found safe in a nearby house. They were not damaged.

When officers encountered the man, he was in a car, and the car struck one of the officers, according to Gastonia Police Officer Rick Goodale.

Police Say Fleeing Suspect Crashes Into Car, Killing Woman

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department confirmed that a CMPD officer was also involved in the incident Friday morning. CMPD said Heather Loveridge was placed on administrative leave as standard procedure any time an officer discharges their weapon.

The FBI said Larry McConneyhead, 47, is currently in the Mecklenburg County Jail on federal charges related to the criminal investigation that led investigators to execute a search warrant at the home. Information on specific fees has not been released.

Police were called to the same house in 2017 after a man was shot in the arm during a robbery.

Police said Deborah Patterson of Bessemer Township was taken in Kirkland’s car to Caromont Regional Medical Center and later died from her injuries.

Kirkland was charged with wrongful death by vehicle, felony fleeing to elude arrest, careless and reckless driving, felony larceny and vehicular related offenses. Police say he was driving with a suspended license.
