Last Mother’s Day I got an Honest Freezer and I have to say it was one of the best gifts I’ve ever received! Stupid isn’t it? After years of struggling with a freezer and digging in when I needed something, getting an upright freezer was the best investment and they really aren’t much more than a freezer. Our kitty fridge was in our basement and it served a purpose and I am very thankful for it, there is nothing like an honest fridge. When I open it, I’m in the freezer section of the grocery store. I can see everything in front of me and easily access everything without digging in and out. And when I get things on sale or things I like (like Aldi’s 70 calorie popsicles that I’m obsessed with!) I can stock up and not feel like I’m out of space.

Setting up an inventory takes a little time at first, but it saves a ton in the long run. No guessing or guessing or buying something I already have.
At first I started with a freezer supply sheet, but having a pantry supply sheet is also very helpful, especially if you don’t have a lot of pantry space like I do. My dream is to have someone like this walking around in a cage. That’s one thing we don’t have. I have food in several different areas, so it’s important to me to keep a list of what we have on hand.
For freezer storage, I pick up an extra set and color code it. I use pink for pork, green for chicken, black for beef, and light blue for sweet desserts. I have one sheet for meat and another sheet for frozen vegetables. You don’t have to color code it, but for me it makes scrolling down the list a little easier. If I’m looking for pork, I’ll only look for pink. Plus, it’s a great excuse to use my favorite Precise V5 pens!
You can laminate these I thought and put them on your fridge or door, put them on a clipboard, whatever works for you. I have a hanging basket that I use now, but that may change. I also use card to make it a little more durable, and I couldn’t resist punching a hole in the paper and making a bow for that little extra cute touch.

Print the blank list and fill out the form, adding each item to the list as you put it in your pantry or refrigerator.

It never ceases to amaze me that our kitchens only take up a small portion of our homes, yet they seem to require the most management. Today we’re tackling pantry and freezer organization with some inventory checklists, and I thought I’d update my printable shopping list as well. It just seemed sensible to include them with the supply sheets.

Before we jump into printers, I wanted to take a moment to talk about choosing printables and systems that work for you. Inventory lists are a good example of this. When I first made them, I was convinced that keeping such a detailed record of what I had on hand would help keep my kitchen more organized. It didn’t work that way for me. After frustrating months of trying to get this method to work for me, I finally gave up. I guess what I’m trying to say is, just because I share don’t feel like you need to use all the printables. Just pick the ones you want and want to try and don’t worry about the rest.
First, we have printable pantry supplies. These printable goals are to help you keep track of what’s in your pantry and see at a glance what you’ll end up with. I know many people who use such systems and love them. Others find them too boring. And others like me only use them for certain things.
The middle section is for tracking when they arrive and when you use them. When adding items to your panty, draw a slash (/) through the boxes to indicate how many you have. When using items, drag another slash () across the field to make an ‘x’.
The right column is for adding the date you purchased the product. This can be useful for things like flour and other dry goods that can spoil over time.

I use the pantry list to keep track of long term items like my flour. We do a lot of baking at home so we buy big bags of flour and sugar. Knowing how long we’ve had it in the pantry has really helped us make sure we use it up before it has a chance to go stale.
I also use it when we buy non-perishables in bulk. I like to mark the date and price next to the store name and product name so I remember to keep an eye out for that sale when it comes back around. Or I can guarantee we won’t be buying any time soon.
A freezer is similar to a pantry, only for refrigeration. I use this more in my pantry, especially since we started packing our meat from the butcher shop. I would love to be able to see the day we bought the items in the fridge. That way we have less freezer burn.
The more I think about it, the more you can use multiple freezer inventory sheets to help you keep track of different things, depending on your needs. But only do it if it suits you. Don’t feel the need to use these checklists. They are just tools you can use if you think they will help you
