How To Crochet Baby Hats: The Easy Way (double Crochets)

I love quick little crochet projects that I can do in one night. And this baby hat is super fast – even for beginners.

This is an easy pattern, too: You start with the crown of the hat, made up of double crochet stitches, before moving on to the main body of the hat.

Piqué stitch is made from a special cluster stitch (SPcl), which is a combination of double crochet and half double crochet all worked in the same stitch. Don’t worry – it’s not hard to do!

Finally, a crochet stitch will be worked at the bottom making a simple cut of your baby’s hat.

This easy crochet baby hat is part of a collection. There’s a matching cardigan, a pair of cute little baby booties, and a soft and fluffy baby blanket.

Of course, you don’t have to do all of these things… any new mom would be happy to have a handmade hat just for her – something I don’t think kids can get enough of!

To make this easy crochet baby hat, you’ll need #3/light-sadded/DK/8 ply yarn.

And if you have some yarn left over (I’m sure, like me, you have plenty!) then this is the perfect project to use up some of that stash.

I used Deramores Studio Baby Soft DK Acrylic to make my hat but you can use any brand of category 3 yarn.

I really like Deamores Baby yarn because it is pilling resistant, machine washable, and very soft with a nice, subtle sheen. The selection of colors offered is also great.

When I was pregnant with my son Parker, I wanted to make a cute newborn set! I had a hard time finding a boyish collection that I liked so I designed one of my own. This is one of the first patterns I posted on my blog and I’m glad you love it as much as I have over the years. I only made the newborn hat in the original post but I’ve expanded the pattern to include hats for all sizes of toddlers, preschoolers and toddlers! Yay!
