Can I legally tell people I have a Fender Strat? I bought it for $100. It’s a Fender Starcaster (not a Fender Starcaster, that would be great!)

I would avoid telling anyone what you have… unless you say you bought it for a dollar or found it on the street, in a dumpster, behind a mailbox…

Technically Fender licensed the stuff, but in practice it was a way to promote the name to low-key customers at Walmart/Costco/Bestbuy for their kids at Christmas, birthdays… the kind of park name. Up for six weeks, never to see the light again.

I bought one in 2007 from Guitar Center in Hollywood. It’s not a “Strat,” it’s not a Stratocaster. This is Starcaster. It sounds like a cheap fake Strat made by Fender in one of their Asian sweat shops. Its closest relative is the Square Fenders line. I had a Square Telecaster in 2014 and it was fine. It was a bit small and light, but I don’t have the biggest hands in the world so it was perfect. My starcaster? Don’t know what happened?

But after having a Fender Stratocaster and a Fender Telecaster, I’d be fine with my Square and Starcaster. The Square fits me better and feels more comfortable in my hands. The Starcaster is similar to the Square, an inexpensive guitar sold by Fender. Kind of like what Gibson does with their Maestro guitars. Any guitarist worth his salt knows that the Starcaster is a cheap guitar. I think you can pick them up on the used market for $50-$100. It’s comparable to all the other millions of cheap guitars made in China. From what I’ve heard, Harley Benton guitars are the cheapest Asian guitars on the market.

This is usually because US made fenders are high quality equipment. But it’s not the place itself, it’s the features they’re made of that matter.

Fder’s Starcaster is a line of instruments and accessories designed for students and beginners marketed by Fder Musical Instruments Corporation from the early 2000s until at least 2011. As of April 2018, no product is sold under this brand.

Electric guitars in this range are made in East Asia and are usually sold as part of a starter pack with a Square SP-10 practice amp (such as the “Starcaster Strat Pack”). In 2006-2007, the Feder website identified them as being sold through Best Buy, Target, Sam’s Club, and Costco. Different finishes were available exclusively at each outlet, including tri-color sunburst with rosewood inlay from Best Buy, black with maple inlay from Target, and black metallic with rosewood and pearl inlay from Sam’s Club (model #0283001165). Although the range was pulled from Feder’s website in 2007, it thrived and was sold through several outlets, including BJ’s Wholesale Club, Amazon.com and Buy.com. Most of these guitars were Stratocasters, but some early versions (sometimes called S1s) had an arrowhead similar to the Fender Swinger.

The standard Electric Starcaster Strat pack includes three single-coil pickups, a five-position switch, and a floating tremolo bridge. Pre-2011 models have a larger CBS headstock on the neck and can have 21 or 22 frets depending on the model. Some models have the neck painted to match the body of the guitar. Later Starcaster models have a shorter Fder headstock. Depending on the model and year of manufacture, the body can be made of linden or agate. To keep costs down, Starcaster was manufactured in Far Eastern countries such as China or Indonesia, with other minor modifications such as a lower grade tremolo. The sensor is based on the cavity to allow an H-S-H sensor configuration that provides flexibility in sensor placement. While most models feature the classic Stratocaster configuration of three single-coil pickups, at least one uses an H-S-S pickup configuration with a humbucker in the bridge position. Since the Stratocaster design is owned by Fder, it does not count as a Strat replica.

In late 2007, Fder introduced an inexpensive amplifier and a range of effects pedals called the Starcaster by Fder. It includes a blue distortion pedal, a gray yellow chorus pedal, an orange flanger pedal and a 15W Starcaster 15G amplifier.

Also sold a drum kit called Fder by Fder. Its shells are made of wood. The kit includes a floor tom, two stand toms, a kick drum, snare drum, hi-hat and crash cymbals, stands, pedals, a drum chair, tuning keys and drum sticks. In the UK they sold Tesco and Argos.

The Fender Starcaster electric guitar is a good choice for beginners and intermediate guitarists. It is a versatile guitar that can be used in a variety of genres including rock, blues and jazz. The Starcaster has a unique body shape that differs from the traditional Stratocaster or Telecaster. The guitar has two humbucker pickups that provide a tight distorted sound. The guitar also has a vibrato panel that allows the player to create vibrato effects.
