If you want to keep things simple – leave the cutting to us and pick up a bag or two of our classic pre-cut blooms! You can even choose any color you want!
Step 1. After cutting out all of your flowers, use your hot glue gun to add a dab of glue to the base of each petal. We like to use a smaller flower first.
Step 3. Add layers, following the glue pattern used in step one! Next we want to add bigger flowers. This flower consists of 3 layers in total.
Fold the green leaf slightly in half and then in half again. Glue for fastening. I love putting these at the end of flowers – they are so finished and happy that way!

This particular DIY compliments my favorite glue gun, which is a key component in how to make felt flowers.
Have you ever seen those felt flower tutorials where they tell you to start with a square of fabric and cut it into a scallop spiral, add glue and you end up with a perfectly formed rose? Yeah. I tried them. Unless you have incredible scissor skills, this design won’t work. The flower always comes out rough and sideways.
Instead, I created a large rolled felt flower pattern that is basically wrong. The hardest part is cutting it. And try to avoid gluing felt flowers to all surfaces of your home.

The key to a successful emotional flower lies in the tools you use. Especially your scissors and glue gun. I’ve tried a handful of glue guns and I can tell you that one mistake can really affect the quality of your flower. The last thing you want is to glue your beautiful flowers.
Luckily for you, I went ahead and did some research and can recommend the best hot glue gun I’ve ever used for working with felt. Surebonder Detail Mini glue gun.
This nozzle has a fine tip so you can do detail work without getting glue balls everywhere. It has a stylish and functional on/off switch which is a lifesaver if you want to plug it into the back of furniture. And if you put it on the ground instead of standing, it will not become gum. Victory! It’s good to know that once you’ve added glue to your piece, you need to be quick and not have to hit it with your glue gun.

But Surebonder glue guns only work with Surebonder adhesives. Do not forget this! If you use another brand of glue, it will leak everywhere.
Having a flat bottom makes this flower really versatile. You can use it for a headband (as seen below), you can turn it into a magnet, add a wire stem and make a bouquet, or even make a sweet necklace for the nursery. I’ve noticed that there are more patterns or dies for tiny little flowers, which are great for some designs, but sometimes you need a big flower to make a big statement!

My favorite way to cut intricate patterns is to tape them directly to the felt and cut the felt and tape at the same time.
Felt Flower Mini Hoop Wreath
You can print the pattern directly onto freezer paper and lightly iron it onto your felt. After cutting the flower, the freezer paper is easily removed. I have used this technique and it works well. I don’t feel like setting the iron on fire. Using duct tape usually means I don’t have to get out of my chair! haha
Use large fabric scissors to cut along the straight inside curve. Then go back with small cuts to cut out the shape of each petal. It takes a while to cut, but then it comes together very quickly.
You will end up with a circular scrap from the center of the pattern, then save it.
You can use straight pins to attach the leaf to the felt and cut around it with a cutter.
How To Make 3 Felt Flowers And Leaves
(I made this flower using an older version of Surebonder Mini, which is why it’s blue in the pictures.)
Starting at the outer edge, draw a line of glue along the bottom of the first petal and roll it tightly. Place the rolled end upside down between your thumb and middle finger, twist it and add glue periodically to form a complete flower. The precision tip of the Surebonder glue gun means you have great control over how much glue you apply to your mud!
After rolling the flower, apply a lot of glue to the back and stick the circle you saved earlier. Press them together well.
I decided to turn my flowers into sweet headbands. It is important to know in advance what you will be using your DIY felt flower for as the leaves will need to be attached with elastic or clips.
Ways To Make Felt Flowers With Easy Tutorials
To attach a 1/8″ elastic, attach the leaf piece to the back of the flower, place the looped elastic between the flower and the leaf, and attach to the other side of the leaf.
