The reason “job description” is used as an umbrella term is because that’s where the JD all starts. Typically, the process of writing a job description is a collaboration between the hiring manager, the recruiter, and the compensation team. It might look like this:
“Job posting” is the most common phrase on job pages that companies use to recruit candidates from the outside.
Professional Job Description Examples
Some employers take most or all of their job descriptions and use them in their job postings.
“Job advertisement” (or job posting as it is called in the UK) is usually synonymous with “job vacancies”, but it can be different.
The word “advertisement” means that this is a job page and you are paying someone to get an ad (for example, when you pay a commission to get an extra job lead).
Understandably, these people don’t use the term “job ad” to describe a job page on a company’s internal site.
