Elf Shoes How To Make – We love mixed media art projects. Last winter we created several pieces of art in a variety of mediums, including a Christmas village, a snowy birdhouse, and a cute and cuddly little penguin. This year we started our first of what will surely be many Christmas projects with these adorable elf shoes. We say elf shoes, but the fun and focus is on the tights. Open up your paints, newspaper, markers and anything else you can think of to create your own cute and funny elf.

Elf Shoes How To Make
There are many design options that you can do. We have created various mixed media projects ourselves. Here are a few. I started with a piece of watercolor paper and painted the background with watercolors. While the paint was drying, I moved on to cutting out and designing the elf shoes and tights.

I cut out a pair of elf tights and then lots of different strips of scrapbook paper.
Scrapbook pieces made the perfect stripes on the elf’s tights. I placed the two leg shapes side by side and then taped different colored and patterned strips to both legs until the legs were covered.
Once they were done, I flipped the whole thing over and cut around the leg shape to remove all the excess scrap.
After the paint on the base dried, I cut up some newspaper and used it for our snowy background. Then I glued all the sprite pieces to the background. Instead of cutting balls for the ends of the shoes, I decided to use pom poms.

My daughter made one too. She didn’t use prints, instead drawing her own elf shoes and stockings on a piece of plain white paper.
She drew lines on her stockings and then drew patterns in them. I loved the idea and followed suit before she changed her mind and decided she liked plain stripes better.
She used a gel pen to color each strip. The bright and shiny colors of the gel pens were very effective for this project and looked great.
After attaching her pieces with a piece of construction paper, she said her tights weren’t long enough and she stretched her design over the top with her lips.

She finished her elf shoes and stockings and added some Christmas ornaments to finish it off.
I loved the idea of ββthe Sharpie design in the pantyhose strips, so I copied my little girl’s idea and made another one.
Newspapers are always great in projects like this. Here’s another one we made as a team.

Elf Hat And Ears
Every year for Christmas I make homemade Peppermint Oreos and they are always a hit, if I do say so myself! Family members and friends always ask for them this time of year. Last year I was browsing Pinterest (weird, I know) and saw this post about making elf shoes for Oreos… I was so excited! Now I was able to make my own peppermint Oreos, but I also had a cute way to give them as gifts.
First you’ll want to melt the candy. If you are using a microwave, use the defrost setting and thaw them every 30 seconds and then stir. Do this until they are completely dissolved. Instructions are on the candy packaging. After it dissolves add peppermint extract. I just use my judgment, but I probably use about 1/2 tsp. Now you are going to dip the Oreos in the candy melt… make sure you coat the entire Oreo. Once coated, place the Oreos on wax paper to harden. After strengthening, enjoy with a glass of milk!
The first thing is to melt the candy…I use the microwave but if you are using a double boiler be very careful not to over water the bowl. Please do as I say – I’ve made this mistake before and it’s not pretty.
I wouldn’t double up on candy packs either… every time you get a bad bag, your whole pile is ruined if you combine the bags. Again, I speak from my own experience π

Next, you take peppermint extract and add it to the melted candy. I’m just guessing on this part and it always turns out well.
Now it took me a while to hang this piece, but you will need to coat both sides of the oreos and make sure they are completely covered.
I also like to drip excess candies onto wax paper before placing them to harden.
Another great thing about the website I found is that they also have a template so all I have to do is follow it.
