Dungeon Of Doom Haunted House – The heart beats, the legs run, the mind cries. These treats are sought after every fall during Halloween. There is a new haunted house in Springfield this year called Dungeons of Dooms.
So far, three of the seven stories have turned into pure horror from the empty space left by the closing of the old Houn’ Dawg Food Factory. “We’ve been working non-stop on this for over a year now,” explained owner Sterling Mathis.

Mathis, who also owns Hotel Terror, used to own the original Dungeons of Doom elsewhere; closed in the early 1990s.
Frightful Nights Don’t End On Halloween
“It’s completely different from the old Dungeons of Doom. It’s even different from Hotel of Terror,” said Mathis. “All is open; you must find your way. The Hotel of Terror is narrow and before you, and we are there. You must think how to get past.”
The vast space on each floor has several themes, including one modeled after the notorious murderer and grave robber Ed Gein; Gein has influenced characters in several films, including Norman Bates in Psycho, Jame Gumb in The Silence of the Lambs, and Leatherface in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. “We have half the floor dedicated to him: the house, the barn, the cemetery and everything is dedicated to him,” Mathis said.
The new series opens on Friday the 13th for two weeks to give scaredy cats a glimpse of the horrors to come in the autumn. Dungeons of Doom is located at 700 Wall Street West – a few blocks from the Terror Hotel. With doors opening at 7 each evening, the two-week event runs from May 13 to May 28.
Admission is $17 for the Dungeons or $25 for a combo ticket for the Dungeons and Hotel of Horrors, which are also open at this time. Customers can be shuttled back and forth between the two wash areas in a shuttle.
