We did this as two adults and two children aged 12 and 9. We really enjoyed it and the difficulty level was just right. Lots of puzzles and something for everyone.
At the beginning, one of your team will be locked and the rest must free them. It was fun, but I’m glad it was only for the first part because it was nice to be able to work as a team on a major solution.

Really interesting room. Not big or flashy, but full of puzzles and they have a lot of variation. None of the puzzles were too difficult with us, but the size of the puzzles meant we had a lot to do. very interesting.
The Brentwood branch of Clue HQ is in the Essex countryside next to a Cold War-era nuclear defense bunker in an unusual location, but it seems like the perfect neighborhood to escape to, even if we don’t have time to visit. The games we selected on this trip used different themes.
Our first game was Dungeon of Doom, which uses a pseudo-medieval setting where you trap one (or two, maybe if you’re playing in a large group) of your party and wait for the greedy…
A lot of effort has gone into the design of this room and they really work as a team in the first half. It’s a nice touch to have a chat instead of doing your own thing.
Escape Room Enigmarium (ljubljana)
Nice looking room, but unfortunately the game wasn’t for me. At least one puzzle had a questionable answer that I always managed to misread (it’s confusing), and some seemed to have no direction or flow. While maintaining the aesthetics of the room, grinding and frowning from one section to the next made the game feel distinct.
We absolutely loved this wonderful escape room in Boscombe, Bournemouth. And it’s a complete experience from the moment you get your pre-game email! The theme and immersion was incredible, and we can’t fault the meticulous attention to detail shown here. Even the reception and waiting room is beautiful and impressive. Gameplay is also themed, as you can see – but I’ll get to that.
We had two wonderful and lovely (almost!) hosts in David and Dan and felt well taken care of and motivated from start to finish. No spoilers, but the “preview” wasn’t your usual starter room, and even in this small segment, the quality and build-up of mystery and excitement was at an all-time high.
Once we got right into the room, we really liked the fantasy themes, different puzzles, and game mechanics. There were some great moments in the theater – a lot of them actually! – and everything from the lighting to the effects to the sound and music felt perfect. Unlike others who have commented here, I didn’t find the story line confusing; In fact, the opposite! It’s one of the few escape rooms I’ve played that felt connected from start to finish, but had a clear storyline. You’re really made to feel a part of it, and I think everything that’s going on makes sense. The attention to detail is amazing (you have to have good attention to detail…!) and there are tons of easter eggs and references to true geeks and/or fans of the genre that we *loved* finding. * Breathing is a space to be free.

As for the gameplay, I thought it worked perfectly as two – there are some nice non-linear moments, but also a good amount of time to work together, so good communication is key here. It flowed so incredibly well that we rarely had a few messes and the sign placement – when we remembered to keep up the enthusiasm – went really well. Everything made sense, fit the plot and followed well. There was a point where we finished a puzzle before we got a road sign, but it didn’t feel like it ruined the flow or the story at all.
There are some fantastic props that feel very ‘real’ and fantastic use of technology and detail. An exciting ending that builds up the tension is to be seen! The drama geek in me was over the moon and my partner did his sci-fi loving heart too. Even the hint mechanism is well established, but my one gripe is that sometimes the hints come a little too easily. We have two insights, neither of which came a little early and need not. But to be fair, I’d rather do that than waste time getting frustrated, and I think that’s a difficult balance to balance, especially with teams as clearly experienced as ours, but a little impatient (for me!).
All in all, it was an amazing experience from start to finish, and we’re so excited to be in the woods to see if Ms. MARVO can live up to her claim! We definitely plan to go back when they open their second room, which they promise will be mid-to-late 2023. Strongly recommended.
