Today’s flower tutorial will be from a simple sunflower – one of my favorites! This beautiful sunflower will be planted in an orange pot. This drawing is quick and easy and takes less than ten minutes to complete.

Once you learn it, you will be able to draw flowers in a pot within a minute.

To follow the lesson, use the green lines as a reference for the step you are going through. For example, from the second step, you will see that the base of the flowers is drawn in blue. This is how you know which part of the flower pot to draw in the current step.

The first step is to draw the ring of your flower pot. You can start this with a rounded rectangle. Make sure you leave enough space above and below your rectangle. You will draw the stem and flower on top of the rectangle, and the base of your pot below it.

Second, you will draw the base of your flower pot under the rounded rectangle you just drew. The base will be slightly more than twice the height of the rim of your flower pot.

Third, you will draw two lines that will be the ribs of your flower pot. This will help add interest to your drawing and make it look beautiful.

The fourth step is to draw the base of your flower head. This will be a simple circle on top of your flower pot. You will want to move this circle slightly from the center.

Step five is a favorite of many florists! Now you will draw large and beautiful flower petals around the base you made. When you’re done, your flower should look like the one shown above.

Now you will want to draw five lines for each flower petal. As you move away from the head of your flower, twist the lines and press them into place.

Now it’s time to add a stem to your floating flower. No scary ghost flower here! To make your stem, draw two curved lines from the bottom of your flower to your flower pot.

In step 8, give the base of your flower some love by adding two petals on each side. For a natural looking flower, draw one of the petals larger than the other.

Add detail to the two leaves you just drew by drawing a line through each leaf. Just like you did with your flower lines, add different sizes to these lines. Start your line thin, gradually thicken the line in the middle and taper at the end.

You did it! Now you have a picture of beautiful flowers. If you want to make it more beautiful, see the next step.

Now you can add color to your new flower picture. If you’re not sure what colors you want to use, check out the graphic above for inspiration. Whatever colors you choose, your flower is sure to look great!

The art style of this book is slightly different from the flower painting you just drew. Instead of a live view of flowers, you will learn to draw more realistic flowers.

The resources required to craft this book are more involved, but well worth it.
